Wedding Cutlery

Renae, on April 26, 2017 at 9:12 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Is it ok to use clear hard plastic plates, knives and forks or do I have to rent the cutlery. Im trying to stay within budget. Let me know if you think it's acceptable, Thanks

That's fine. They have the plastic cutlery that looks like silverware. Do what's in your budget. No one is going to judge you for not having the fanciest, glass plates and real silverware

How formal is the rest of your wedding? What kind of food are you serving? Can you at least spring for the disposable stuff that looks like the real thing?

If you've, say, spent $10k on flowers to decorate your venue, you damn well better shell out for real silverware. But if you're having a super casual meal where nothing really needs to be cut, nice disposable is fine.

ETA: But seriously, none of the clear plastic ones. At least get the stuff that looks decent.

It depends on the level of formality of the event and what food you are serving (some food just won't work with plastic). They do make plastic cutlery that looks like real silverware. As long as it matches the formality of your event and the food you are eating go for those! Do not do the clear plastic though!

We're using high end disposables, but we're having a somewhat casual brunch type of wedding.

It's really not that expensive. Depending on your area, for real dishes and silverware it was $2.10 for each person. It's not much more then I would have spent on disposable

For an informal event, it's okay to use plastic. I'd choose the metal - looking ones though! Walmart and grocery stores sell them, but here's an Amazon link so you get an idea: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BZMIQI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eIkazbD1ZW1E9

Dollar tree! You can buy real plates for $1 and cutlery sets including fork, knife and spoon for $1. I don't think buying the nice plastic will save you that much.

If you're having anything more challenging than omelettes, get real flatware.

@Erin thank you for recommending Dollar Tree- I just ordered mine from there! It ended up costing about the same as the metallic plastic I was going to buy, but I'll be able to resell it, yay!

Webstaurantstore.com and smartyhadaparty.com have good disposable options. Pic is from webstaurant, $50 for 120 plates. There are many more options. I ordered from there and everything arrived as expected.

I am planning to buy plastic plates that look nice, but use real flatware. I personally don't like plastic forks and knives. You can get some pretty inexpensive silverware. Look at http://www.webstaurantstore.com. THey have regular silverware as well as plastic options for plates, etc

@Jayquellin- Nice work!! I love dollar tree and their dishes are actually pretty! They have a lot of color and pattern options. I told FH I wanted to register for new dishes there. HaHa!
