Wedding coordination - Lilac color, please help.

Trinity, on June 9, 2020 at 5:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

Hello all,

My wedding is Lilac, and I am having such a hard time trying to match everything up. For example, I bought a ring box in lilac, but the lilac is different shade than the bridesmaids' dresses and both are different from my invitations. Lilac is such a hard shade for coordination. Any tips? I see that people have all the matchy colors, but it's so hard for Lilac. Thank you!

Do you have another color that you could coordinate with lilac? Something neutral like gray, silver, gold, black, or white would be pretty. Our colors were red and black with blush and silver as accent colors. I had a very difficult time finding bridesmaids dresses in the exact red my husband wanted. It needed to be as close to the red as NHL's NJ Devil's since that's his favorite hockey team. So I totally understand your frustration. I know lilac is one of my friend's colors for his wedding and they paired it with either black or dark gray (not sure which one since he hasn't had his wedding yet, but he mentioned it would be one of the two). I have included some lilac color combinations.

I love PP's suggestion! because not everything needs to exactly be in lilac ya know? but i also think even if the shade is slightly off , that's fine! my colors were mint and blush pink but the pinks weren't all in the same exact shade. i don't think it takes away from the look.

I agree with PP on picking a secondary color. I'll also say that absolutely no one, not even you, will notice if your bridesmaids dresses don't match your ring box or your invitations on your wedding day. It's easy to notice these things when you're fixated on them and have them side by side, but that won't be the case on your wedding day.

I've heard of people not trying to make everything matching exactly but in shades of the color. It makes things easier planning wise and gives more range for your color palette.

I would focus on things that will be seen in the same space. For example, I'd make sure your linens on the tables are all the same lilac so they aren't obviously different and right next to each other. The dresses, invites, and ring box, though, will never be right next to each other to be noticed. I totally understand because I'm scared of this with our burgundy color, but I think as long as they aren't in the same space, it won't be an issue on the day of.

Our color is lilac. We are also mixing in some purple, silver, gray, and sage green. The main things that are lilac are the bridesmaid dresses, sashes on flower girl dresses, groom/groomsmen ties and part of the centerpieces. I used the same lilac colored ribbon on some things to tie things together such as flower girl baskets and container the markers for the guest books are in.

Maybe intentionally go for multiple shades of lilac, then it will look more cohesive if you have similar shades of purple.

I am noticing a similar issue with navy blue...

I think light gray or like a sage green would be a really nice pairing

We are also doing a light lilac as our main color. We added in a dark plum purple and it made everything so much easier to coordinate we are also doing gray and silver mainly for the metal accents and what the guys are wearing. It doesn’t have to match perfectly if it’s all the same color and just a shade lighter or darker it all still looks great together.

    Hello,

Yes. Our color is Lilac, Green and Gold accent. I am just worried about the matching. For example, I rent lavender napkins, I am worried it won't match the flowers. Maybe I am just overthinking. Like right now, my ring box doesn't match the color of our invitations. Smiley sad

I see. Thank you! That's one of my worries too as I rent the napkins from another vendor.

That's smart! Our is Lilac, Green and Gold. To be safe, I am just having the flower girls wear plain white. I will have the groomsmen wear the lilac ties only because it's from the same site with the BM's dresses.

I understand your worry about the flowers and napkins matching because they will actually be by each other, but the ring box and invitations won't be so I don't think that matches as much.

Yeah, I can see how the napkins would be worrisome trying to get a match. Are there any napkin vendors that will send you some to look at the colors first?

Teal is a hard one, too. I agree with some of the others in having secondary colors to help break things up and make the different shades not so obvious.

For me with my teal, the bridesmaids dresses are the same shade, but I’m not using any other teal in the ceremony. Then I have cake stands and centerpieces that are all the same shade. I’ve got some other shades here and there in different things as well.
