Wedding Colors? What Should the Flower Girl Wear?

TwoGeeksWed, on July 29, 2015 at 9:05 PM Posted in Planning 7 8

How many colors did you have set as "official" colors in your wedding scheme? We were going to use navy blue, royal blue, and gray as ours, but I'm not feeling the royal blue as much. I'm debating on adding another color (or colors) to things, but I'm not sold on doing so.

Right now, the plan is for the bridesmaids to be in navy blue (their choice of dress), and FH and the groomspeople will tentatively be in gray. My dress is ivory with silver accents.

We are getting married in late April, and I plan on using daffodils for the bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages. So while yellow is a bit of an un-official color, it's going to be very present.

Should I put the flower girl in navy? Or in silver/gray? Or both? Or a different color completely? I'm not a fan of putting her in ivory, as she's going to be just over two years old when we get married - white/ivory clothes don't tend to stay that way long!

My MOH's are wearing Regency and BM's are wearing Raspberry. My flower girl/daughter is 4 almost 5 at time of wedding. She is wearing a white dress that matches my dress with a Regency belt to match the MOH's.

I personally always prefer the flower girl to be in a coordinating color to the BMs. I wouldn't do silver because IMO it could end up too close to your dress since you said it had silver accents. I look at the flower girl as part of the bridal party and so I think it's best to have her match the other girls. Also, and this is TOTALLY just my opinion, but I find it a little creepy how oftentimes when flower girls are in white or ivory they end up looking like little mini brides. It just bugs me. We aren't having any kids in the wedding party, but if we were having a flower girl she would be in sage green same as the bridesmaids.

I agree that I'm not sure that navy and royal blue would work well together in addition to the gray. This is completely different than your original colors, I know, but if you are set on navy, have you considered coral with gold accents? If you are set on gray, yellow looks very good with it. Since you are already planning to have yellow floral accents, this may also work. As far as the flower girl dress, I personally wouldn't want s flower girl in an all gray dress. Sure she may be young and white and two year olds is tough. Honestly though, if that alone is the deterrent, don't put the dress on her until the very last second. Don't give her any candy etc until after pictures are taken. Try not to spend a lot of money on the dress (for a multitude of reasons). But if you do spend a lot and are really worried about it getting dirty, just change her into an alternative outfit at the reception. If you really want her to wear a color, just go with whatever compliments the bridal party.

Agree that Royal is probably best left out. We did not have any official colors, nor a theme - I just went with what I liked, but considering what you're saying, I'd probably put your flower girl in a very soft pale yellow, which will look nice with the navy and the gray and is a nice child-appropriate color, or a light gray, and put a navy sash on it, to 'tie together' the BP colors. Alfred Angelo I think might be able to do that, if you don't already have a vendor for the FG's dress.

I've been exploring Etsy tonight, and now I'm thinking maybe something similar to this dress, but maybe with both navy and gray/silver for the tulle.

Or just gray/silver for the tulle, with navy for the ribbon around the top/neck and waist. Or reverse that, and have navy for the tulle, with silver/gray for the ribbon parts.

Easter is 3/27. I bet you'll be able to find some pretty yellow dresses on sale.

My bridesmaids are in peach, I am in ivory and the flower girls will be in peach and ivory - but we found some patterned dresses for them to wear that they will definitely be able to wear again (at Sears, of all places). I think it's the perfect compromise (the "mini bride" thing creeped me out and those dresses are expensive!). Can you do navy with ivory accents - a belt or headpiece or something?

I am having a problem deciding on what color to put my flower girls in. My wedding colors are ivory, red and silver. My bridesmaids are all wearing red dresses with silver shoes, and my dress is ivory with rhinestones. I know I don't want them in ivory dresses since they are so young. . . . . . I have 3 flower girls in my wedding and I'm really torn and what color I would like them to wear. Then I was thinking I want my MOH to wear a silver dress as opposed to the red dresses everyone else will be wearing. (SMH) - It will be awhile before my wedding as we are getting married -7.20.2024, but I like planning ahead and having hard decisions like this made already.
