Hello everyone! Can someone please give me a checklist of what a traditional catholic ceremony and venue have? I’m trying to make sure I’m getting everything done 😊

As far as venues go traditional Catholic wedding are just in a Catholic church, so that would just be your preference of what churches you like more than others.

As far as the ceremony goes, Catholic wedding ceremonies include everything a normal mass has but with the addition of the marriage rites. And for a wedding the bride/groom would choose the readings and songs instead of the pre determined ones and the priest's homily would be geared to the wedding.

The Deacon who married us gave us a book of readings to pick out and it has a very organized cover page where we listed everyone who was reading, what readings we were doing, etc. I thought that was super helpful. I recommend asking your officiant about that!

You need to discuss this with your church's wedding coordinator. He or she should have all of the information you need, and get you in touch with a liturgical coordinator and music coordinator (at the very least).

Hi Jasmin! If you are having a traditional Catholic ceremony, I would recommend discussing it with the priest that will be marrying you or with the wedding coordinator that works with your church. They will be able to talk you through everything that will be involved in your ceremony, what you will need to and have prepared.

Have you thought about what style of venue you would like to have your reception in?

I agree with people above. Find the parish you want to marry in and reach out now. Some don't allow non-parishioners to marry, while others do. If you are getting married at a Catholic university you'll have to make sure you complete their requirements. For example, I got married at Georgetown University. The campus chapel is not part of the Archdiocese of Washington so I had to get permission from my pastor stating that it was okay for me to celebrate matrimony there, my husband and I had to get newly issued baptism certificates with all notations, we had to complete pre-Cana, we had to get affidavits signed by our parents stating that neither of us had been married, and do a few other things that are escaping me at the moment.

As far as the ceremony goes, that is somewhat up to you and your FH. Do you want a ceremony or full Mass? We were given a book, Together for Life, and chose all readings and how we wanted to exchange our vows.

Hope this helps! Best of luck! Write back if you have more questions. Smiley smile
