Wedding ceremony but no reception?

So my hubz to be and I are trying to cut cost as much as possible!!! We are fine with our budget, but we don't really care to use that money on our day, but to save it and spend half of it on our honeymoon. My question is, Is it tacky or rude to have a wedding ceremony but no reception?

Yes. Can you ask close family members to cut costs by bringing a dish? If you have your wedding in a church can you rent out the church hall (inexpensive) and have a low cost reception?

No Alethea...no potluck receptions unless you want to run the risk of giving your guests food poisoning which could get them hospitalized or killed (yes it happens quite frequently) or making all of your friends and family cook during your wedding instead of enjoying it with you.

Oh, and the reception is supposed to be a thank you for the guests, so they definitely shouldn't be cooking for it. The "thank you" also shouldn't be food poisoning. Paying for others hospital bills because your liable does not cut costs.

It’s about you and your spouse. You are not obligated to feed people.

Omg your reception is to thank those who came to your wedding. Yes it would be rude or tacky to have a ceremony and not a reception. That would seem very gift grabby.

... wait, why am I commenting? You got married last September! Hope your reception was awesome and you thanked and hosted your guests that came to celebrate your wedding properly!!

Ha! Actually we got married last Feb 4. 2017! Our wedding day was PERFECT! We had our ceremony at our church then went to a lovely restaurant for our reception! We planned on having an small reception, just needed some ideas about the food.
We got to create our menu and a beer and wine menu. We had a blast! It was a perfect wedding day! And the weather was PERFECT! Thanks for all of the comments!
