Wedding Caterer Tasting

Monika, on January 26, 2020 at 12:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
What is the etiquette to bringing guests to your food tastings? Our parents nor our planner will be attending. Is it okay to bring 2 friends instead?

I only went with FH to our tasting for caterer. I think that it is up to you ultimately

I think that's between you and the caterer. But I would assume that at least 2 people are anticipated to show up from your caterer's perspective.

Usually there is a free tasting for the principal's, which can be you and 1 person. More than 2 people, some charge , some don't.

The caterer allows up to 4 guests. I was wondering if it is common to bring friends rather than parents or a planner to the tasting?

I used to work catering with lots of weddings scheduled. About half the people came in with someone other than FI or parents or coordinators. It was always common for people to screen out most caterers, then do tastings at maybe 3 or 3. But since wedding shows and websites pushed this wedding team thing, some people think they need 6-8 people. And will make appointments with 4 to 8 caterers, with guests every time. So places put on limits to limit the total number of opinions. The more opinions, the less likely people are to make decisions on things. Plus more food wasted. But 1 or 2 friends is usually not only okay, but good business. Next time the guests need a caterer, or talk with others, they spread the word. Enjoy.

You should check with your caterer. I think it is assumed that only the bride and groom will attend tastings.

I'd ask the caterer. We did 3 tastings. One was just me and my husband, the second included my mom and stepdad, and the third we included my mother in law and sister in law.

Our tasting is a big group tasting, so we get to bring 4 guests! So myself, FH, my MOH (twin sister), my parents and his dad are going!

UPDATE! To add to my question: The caterers offer up to 4 guests total (including myself and my fiancé). My question is about the etiquette about being friends to a tasting instead of parents. TIA Smiley heart
