Wedding buffet?

Emily, on June 10, 2019 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
So I’m having my wedding on July 4th of 2021 I had many different thoughts about having my wedding at an actual place that does weddings or even just having it at a hall maybe even my parents house they were fine with that it’s very nice and big. First what are your thoughts on that also I’m thinking buffet styled dinner. But dinner per person is very expensive ( can you tell I just started wedding shopping around haha everything looks so expensive) I was considering making all the food and having someone come over the day of my wedding to prep it all and put it out. Need some thoughts tia!

The venue is totally your choice though I'd make sure if you picked your parents house that it has enough bathrooms, electrical outlets for everything you need, parking, etc. Sometimes renting everything you need does not save you money in the long run (i.e. a tent, chairs, tables, dance floor, etc. it all adds up one way or another).

As far as food, you will come to have a lot to do the week of your wedding and making your own food is extremely stressful and hard to do for a large crowd unless you have an industrial sized kitchen. There are also liability fees, what if someone gets extrememly sick at your wedding because of your food? Caterers have that covered in their insurance. I also didn't want to ask any friends/family to work on my wedding day, since it was a chance for them to relax and enjoy it, too.

However, a buffet style is totally fine and there are a ton of options to pick from that are affordable. Mexican, italian, and BBQ are typically the cheapest. Look into chain restaurants like Chipotle, Olive Garden, Sonys BBQ, etc.

I wanted buffet style.i like the idea of variety and guests choosing but my fiance was so against it. He hates food waste and buffets are the #1 culprit of it. They do tend to be cheaper though due to the lack of service you'd need

Please do not make the food yourself (or have friends/family do it)—too much effort, not usually kept at the right temperature, & food poisoning risks. You can get catered Italian, Mexican or BBQ for $10-$20/person.

If you have fewer than 15 guests, someone’s house may work. Otherwise, look at venues (church halls, community centers) for a reception because they’ll have enough bathrooms, electrical outlets & maybe even chairs/tables.

Like PPs mentioned, save yourself the extra stress and hire a caterer to make and serve the buffet! If you have a smaller guest count, your parents' house should work fine!

I would cater from a BBQ restaurant for $10 pp.
