Wedding blues!

Kimberly, on July 26, 2019 at 6:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
We got engaged this past Christmas! While I am still so excited about getting married, I have found myself in a funk. We are planning for a 2021 wedding and I am thinking that might be why I haven't been so focused on it. I just feel like it is still too early to try to plan anything. Any ideas or suggestions?

Congratulations!! I also got engaged this past Christmas and our wedding isn’t until 2020, and I was feeling the same way therefore we had an engagement party... I’d say it’s never too early, i started right away, plus it gives you extra time to learn all the wedding terminology and really research different options... time also does go by pretty fast

Congratulations!! Another December engagement over here!! The time does go by quickly, it can't hurt to start looking at budget (and saving) and getting ideas on what you would both like to see on your big day. We are somehow just under a year away already, it really sneaks up on you. Enjoy your planning!

It’s never too early to get an idea of what you want. I would maybe browse some venues. They may not be able to book that far out but ask how far they do so that you may be able to get a deal before their prices go up.

You can definitely start planning now! If it helps, we have a 2.5 year engagement as well, which has let us save up to have a wedding that we might otherwise struggle to afford. I spent the first six months brainstorming budget and guest list, and making an initial list of some vendors we might want to look into. Then, a little less than two years before the wedding, we booked our venue (which let us lock in cheaper pricing). We booked some of the other vendors this spring, which meant we could get their 2019 rates and that literally everyone had our date available (so we could get our top choice vendors). I think you can spend the rest of this year leisurely planning and brainstorming, as well as saving for the wedding. Maybe book your venue if things book up quickly in your area. Then around that 1.5 year mark, start booking vendors - they won't even have their 2021 rates for the most part so you'll save a lot of money that way.

You ladies are so great!! I think I may be struggling a bit getting back into that excitement with the planning. I know it's beneficial to have the extra time to plan and save, but for some reason, I'm struggling with it. Plus I'm stuck on wanting a destination wedding or settling for a local wedding.
