Wedding band blues

Mrs. J, on August 27, 2013 at 11:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 42

Hi Ladies..

So I am having a hard time with my wedding band. I love my e-ring. The jeweler made it by hand. It is low profile. Therefore my wedding band has to have a notch in it. I HATE THIS IDEA!!!! When I asked him how to get around this he said the only way is to change my e-ring and that he doesn't' recommend this as it will compromise the integrity of the ring (which I don't completely understand)...and I feel bad to change it. MY FH had it made, for me...

So what other choices do I have for a wedding band if I don't like the notched look? anyone?? HELP : (

My wedding band is wide & my ring finger is rather small due to a childhood injury. So I planned on wearing my e-ring on my ring hand, after the wedding.

Idk exactly what you're talking about, but i think i've gotten some idea. here's what i would do...have your band be handmade also. you could make it like a cradle around your e-ring. why do you hate the idea of a notch in the band?

By notch do you mean a curve or do you mean an actual chunk of metal missing where the stone would slide in?

Could you have a band custom made to fit? The jeweler that made the ring should be able to figure out to make the band fit without a missing piece of metal.

I had the opposite problem - my wedding band is low profile w/ 3 stones and I had to find an e-ring that was high enough to have my band fit underneath. Anything is possible.

Sorry gals.. I wanted to show you a pic so you could see and maybe help. But wedding wire's photo uploader seems to be broken.

    I appreciate your ideas.

@Kysweetheart. I just dont love the notch. The jeweler who made my ering is making the band and he's suggesting the notched band so my ering sits flush with it. I have a small finger anyway so the ring with a big notch in it looks so bare and small and I could never wear it alone. I'd much rather have a regular band.

Do you like the bands that slip all the way around the e-ring?

    Would that be an option?

Mrs. P, do you mean the curved bands?

No, not curved - they build a band that your engagement ring slips right into. I think it's called an enhancer...

Since pics aren't uploading - this link has what I am thinking of

Oh I know what you mean. Thats exactly what the single notched band would be like. And if i do settle for a notched band i would get 2. So it would almost be like an enhancer, just not attached.

Then i saw this.. might be an option: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/any-size-4-rings-halo-or-solitaire#axzz2dBW4vYp0 (very first pic)

I have a low-profile ring that won't sit flush with a wedding band, and I also don't like curved or notched wedding bands (or enhancers). The jeweler kept asking if I was sure about how I wanted my engagement ring, since it's not going to sit flush to a straight "traditional" wedding band.

I love my engagement ring and I love traditional wedding bands, and I'm gonna wear both of 'em even if they're not flush together. WHATEVER.

Mrs. P, thank you! I really do love my ring and it breaks my heart to change it. Maybe the criss cross is the answer.

Stephanie, I hear you girl!!! I think I might just deal with the space issue too and get what i like... I think my jeweler is old school and he is acting like a space between rings is unheard of.. he's making it hard for me! lol

FWIW, I'm really old school--was married for the first time in 1977. And it was common then to have a plain gold band for your wedding band, and a solitaire for your e-ring, which meant that the two would never sit flush. The idea that a wedding ring is supposed to sit flush against your e-ring is actually a relatively new idea.

That makes me feel better 2d Bride.

I wish I could find a unique wedding band that would look nice next to my ring.

Do your rings have to be next to each other? Mine aren't attached (they look very similar to the attached picture) and I actually prefer it. If I am going on vacation I can just wear my bands and don't have to bring my engagement ring.

    K, I love your rings.

I dont think mine have to be next to eachother.. my jeweler apparently does. He's like the chef who wont give you a well done filet mignon!
