Wedding Albums

Diandra, on October 11, 2011 at 11:07 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

Our photographer was great and we love our pictures BUT he did not offer an album. We did get a disc of all of our pictures but need some suggestions of where to go to get a proffessional album made. We were told to just go to Snapfish but we want better quality then that. Any suggestions? Also...what does anyone think would be a good price for a digitally designed album? and two parent albums?

I have all my my prints made at Bay Photo, I have sent test prints to many local and online labs and I find that Bay Photo is the best online lab.

    They are www.bayphoto.com

    Good Luck,

Personally, I'd get pictures printed from Shutterfly(maybe be a tad more expensive, but it's worth it) and then get a pretty album from Target/Hobby Lobby/etc.

As long as you have the rights to your photographs on the CD you could look around for another photographer who offers custom albums. Or, as you mentioned, there are companies who offer the option of uploading your images to their website so you can create your own album using their templates.

The price for custom albums varies greatly based on the type of album {thin pages vs. thicker pages}, type of binding {book bound vs. flush mount}, size of the album {they range from 5x5 up to 12x12 and every size inbetween} and the cover {photo, leather, etc.} I personally love the leather covered flush mount albums. I think they look fantastic and the pages hold up really well.

Also, usually you can order a big album for yourself and then order the same album in a smaller size to use as parent albums and get a decent discount on the additional copies of the same album design.

Check out this review of most of the photobook websites that exist...

My preference is mypublisher if you are willing to pay extra for lay flat pages and super glossy printing (Both are MOST DEFINITELY worth the extra cost...they take a normal photobook and up the quality A LOT)

    Definitely http://www.mypublisher.com/

we're not opting with the albums from our photographer. 1. too expensive and 2. they do what they think is nice, you can do what you think is nice instead.

I am a graphic designer specializing in designing custom wedding albums.

While I work for some photographers, most of my clients are brides whose photographers either did not offer a wedding album option, or that option was too expensive.

I’ve ordered from a number of different print-to-bind companies for flush mount albums and premium lay-flat pressbooks and have a good sense of which ones are the best quality at the best price.

The four companies I highly recommend are: Black River Imaging, Zookbinders, NationsPhotoLab, and Smilebooks. If you have any questions about the differences between their books, I’d be happy to help! Susan Gallagher … SusanGallagher@Inspired AlbumDesigns.com
