Website Wording Help

Soon to be FRY, on May 31, 2017 at 12:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

My venue recommended letting our guests know about various important details. I put them on our website, but my MOH said no one will even read them and people will be calling me the day of my wedding asking for directions. Does this sound okay or is it too much?

We had maybe 10 site visits out of 50 guests so I agree that people may not look. We didn't have a single guest call us about directions because everyone has a gps now.

It's hard to see the wording in your pic. You might want to copy/paste the words alone here.

No matter how little or much you write, please will still be lazy and call instead of reading the website. I think that looks great, and just know you provided everyone with the information needed.

We've had about 85 views so far. I know there is GPS but the lake/our venue is in a no service area and it can be confusing to get there. I'll share the text below:

Here are some important notes from Elk Lake to keep in mind for the big day:

--Elk Lake recommends carpooling as much as possible. It is peak season for the lake and there will be limited parking for wedding guests as well as lake guests.

--Keep a look out for signs directing you towards Fry wedding on Cascade Lakes HWY as you get closer to Elk Lake.

--Make sure you turn into Elk Lake Resort, NOT Elk Lake Loop

--Once on the path into the resort, look for signs on the trees directing you toward wedding/overflow parking.

--Temperatures do tend to drop in the evening, we will have some blankets for your use, but you may want to bring a light jacket as well, just in case.

--The ground around the chapel and reception area is uneven and covered in wood chips, so you may want to keep that in mind when choosing your shoes.

Would all this info be helpful or annoying to you guys?

This is really helpful information! Yes, you may still have some guests calling you regardless - but you might as well try to let people self-help Smiley smile

I would separate the directional tips from the attire tips, just to help guests read and digest the right info!

I'm not sure this needs to be it's own separate page. Many of these things seem like they could easily be worked onto other parts of your website.

Do you have a separate section on your website where you are providing actual directions to your venue? The 2nd-4th bullet points seem like they should be worked into actual directions. A directions section on how to get to your venue can be helpful and would look more organized.

Do you have a page about your ceremony and reception (locations, start times, additional details)? The 5th and 6th bullets would be good notes to add to that page. Again, the information would seem more organized if it was presented as a detail about your ceremony or reception.

Not sure where to put the first bullet about carpooling. Do lots of your guests know each other and know who else is invited? Is carpooling a feasible request? I find it to be kind of odd. If parking is going to be such a problem, I think it would be more useful to offer a shuttle to your venue. It would make sense to have a "Directions and Transportation" page on your website, in that case.

If you're going to continue using bullet points on your website, I think the formatting needs to change so it will be easier to read. Right now you have a huge space between the bullet point and the text, but if it continues to a second line, the second line is not tabbed to start in line with the first line of text of that point, which makes it look messy. On top of that, there is no spacing between bullet points, so it all runs together, making it difficult to separate the information in each bullet point as you read it. If you double space the lines between different bullet points to separate them from each other, as well as make it so the text in each bullet point lines up, it will look a lot cleaner.

Wedding websites are extremely helpful. I've had over 150 views since I made it! It cuts down on the number of questions you get asked too

It may be easier to have a FAQ section or VENUE INFO section where you can place these sort of in a format that may be easier?

We did something like this in our FAQ re: parking directions, travel from parking underground to restaurant, ticket validation from restaurant to weather etc.

No one called us or bothered us the day of and everyone showed up on time and appropriately for the weather etc.
