Website Not Secure

Veronica, on December 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM Posted in Account Support 1 11

Hello, I created our website and paid for the custom domain but at the top of the URL bar it says "Not Secure" in big red letters and it drives me a little nuts. I don't want my guests to worry when pulling up our site. How can I get rid of this?

Hi Veronica! Our premium URLs only support http URLs, some browsers flag this. Currently, there is no option to add this feature to premium URLs, but I'm happy to share this feedback with our Development Team!

    Hey Veronica!

What did you end up doing about this? I just purchased my custom domain and immediately noticed this as well. I am not happy that I paid for a custom domain only to have it be insecure. I don't want my guests to feel uncomfortable when browsing our website. I would have used a different provider if I would have seen this was going to be an issue in the first place. Let me know if you were able to get something figured out for your site.

    Hey Emilee,

I left it as is Smiley sad there was nothing I could do but I agree I would have gone with a different provider if I knew it would be like this. Fortunately none of my guests have said anything yet but it definitely bothers me!

Thanks for your response! I’m glad that none of your guests have said anything about it!

My solution was a last minute switch over to the knot and I am using the generic url that they provide to couples.
I was mainly concerned about length and cleanliness of the url and that’s why I had originally went with the custom domain on wedding wire. I still think it’s a bit dumb that if you go with the generic url on wedding wire it is considered as secure, but the moment you spend money for a custom domain it’s not secure... sorry for the rant, it just bothered me so much! I’m sad that I spent so much time on this site and the money to end up needing to quickly swap over to the knot (because we were in process of proofing our save the dates), but the sites on the knot have very similar functions and their generic url for us was shorter, plus it’s secure!
Hopefully wedding wire can get this issue figured out soon! Otherwise I hope brides considering the custom domain see this post!

I wish I read this before. I just purchase the custom domain. It was a hassle to get it active....struggling for an hour. Now it is active but at the top of the URL bar it says "Not Secure"

    Very unhappy with this.

Yes, same here. Yet still not fixed 3 years later. I guess when they merged (The Knot & WeddingWire) they said the hell with those who use the Wedding Wire. I hate that it says not secure because of course it doesn't look good. I started out with the knot and came over to the wedding wire because they had more tools that I liked. I really would hate to switch back or to any other site at this time.

Yes very disappointed. The very least WeddingWire should allow us to switch it back the generic setting and take the load on the purchase. There should’ve been a warning before we accepted the change. I will be switching the knot as well. WeddingWire please fix this issue ASAP and I might consider keeping the site. I even paid for all rights to it for 2 years. Rip off

WeddingWire, can I default my URL back to the original setting. I can’t share a not secure site with my guest as most are private security, military and law enforcement. Please advise soon as possible as I was planning to send it out this week and now this is a big problem for us.

Any update on this? I am not willing to spend $24 for a domain when It doesn't have an SSL?

It should be possible to cover various hostnames under the WW umbrella. I have a web host that allows https access to my website without me having to change anything. It of course depends on the crew that WW has available for these tasks. But definitely, a lot of people just avoid trying to open up a webpage when they get a scary warning (or when it is too difficult to get around the warning).

I wish I had known and seen this before purchasing the domain. You would think that after all this time it would be fixed. But nope. I’m having the same issues with the site not being secure and worrying that my guests will feel uncomfortable about it. I would switch but at this point I’ve purchased physical invitations with the QR Code linked to our website.
