Wearing white for engagement photos??

Victoria, on September 6, 2019 at 2:04 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
Hi! My engagement photos are a week from tomorrow & I’m scrambling trying to find something to wear. We are having them done at an old museum/mansion in my city. I want our outfits to fit with the location, and look classy and timeless. I am already a very dressy person (wear dresses and skirts daily almost), so I feel like wearing an elegant dress would be most fitting for me. My question is: can you wear white for engagement photos? I’m worried that it might look like I’m already wearing a wedding dress. My fiancé would be dressed up with a bow tie. If not, any ideas on what to wear would be appreciated! It’s still nice and hot here. I’ve attached a picture of the location and some dress options. Thanks y’all!!!

I wore a white blouse and Jean's (casual photoshoot). I think it's fine to wear white. I like the second dress option best.

Some people wear white to every pre wedding event: engagement party/photos, bachelorette, bridal shower, rehearsal and whatever else they may have. I didn't, but its totally fine to and I don't think people mistake it for a wedding dress. Plus if you go with a shorter dress, it will look even less like a wedding dress (even though some people do wear short dresses, it's just not as common)

I have the same fear about wearing white in the engagement photos. If I go white I was gonna go with floral or a pattern or a hi-low. Try to keep it away from feeling too bridal. I get two outfits though so there will be variety.

You can wear whatever color you want. Like PP mentioned, some people decide to wear white to every single prewedding event. I personally think that seeing the bride in 92 white dresses before the wedding kind of takes away from seeing the bride in a white dress on the wedding day, but to each their own.

My midi dress is mostly white with some green floral details. Any of the dresses you posted should work

You can wear whatever color you want. I personally think you should wear something with color that suits your personality, as engagement photos should be less formal than your wedding photos (even if you opt to have formal attire). But you can wear whatever color you want, even white. Just make sure it's something that is comfortable and makes you happy when you have it on.

I think wearing white it very elegant and perfect for photos

*just a side note* my sister in law purchased the first dress from lulus for her wedding and it was VERY low cut. If you have any chest at all it will look a lot more racy that the model in the photo. She had the tailor put in a mesh panel and she still ended up purchasing a different dress the week of her wedding because, in her words, "I can't wear this dress in front of my dad" haha.

Tessa, I appreciate that- you didn’t get to me fast enough though. 😂 I ended up buying the first dress in a different color. You are so right about it being very low cut and it looks different than on the models. I wore it regardless- though, some pictures I refuse to show my FILs. Thanks everyone for the input!!

I love the idea of it! I purchased a floor length white lacy dress from lulu’s for my engagement photos. The shoot takes place on the 30th of this month so I don’t have anything to show you. I read that it is a “sweet nod to your wedding dress.” Also, why couldn’t you wear what you want to? I say go for it!
