I didn't wear white the first time but I am this time! Don't let outdated "norms" steer you away from a dress you love. Remember, some of those "etiquette" ideas were based on the idea that only first time brides were pure and virginal (and I would venture to guess that is not the norm anymore either). My Mom said I could not wear white to my wedding since FH and I were already living together.....I did a quick google search to show the origin of that and put that issue to rest very quickly in the bridal salon. Wear whatever you want.

Where whatever color you want! The white doesn't mean virginity, white was used to show how wealthy you were. Look it up the history is pretty cool.

I think it's completely up to you! My fiancé and I just got engaged last week, but we've been dating (and living together) for 5 years now. So even though we aren't "pure" in the traditional sense, I can't imagine walking down the isle in anything other than a white dress.

So I think you should do whatever you want to do. If you want to wear white, or if you want to wear a different color, it should be completely up to you.

I've only been engaged for a week, but already I have had some people tell me what I should or shouldn't do. I know they're just trying to help, but I've already decided not to let outside influence pressure me into decisions I don't agree with.

Totally agree! If a white dress makes you feel awesome... wear it! This is my 2nd wedding but FH'S first wedding. I definitely wanted him to think "Bride" when he saw me.
