We have finally set the date...NOW WHAT?!

Jodi, on February 1, 2013 at 9:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Greetings! My fiance and I have finally set a date. Suddenly all of my abstract ideas are something that needs to be made real and concrete...and I am freaking out! We have given ourselves 18 months so that we can plan, be frugal, and truly have the wedding of our dreams on a realistic budget. (No more than 10,000)

I live in the SW suburbs of Chicago, but am willing to travel 50-100 miles into the surrounding area in order to have a venue that is both beautiful and affordable. We are still working on the guest list, but after his Mom is through I think we should be around 120.

I would love to meet other brides-to-be with whom we can ask advice and share encouragement to get us through this process!

Your date isn't chiseled in stone until you have your ceremony & reception venues and your officiant booked for THAT date. Once that's done, you can start planning everything else!

My FH & I picked a date and told his best man. Ooops, that was the date the BM had picked for his wedding! So, we picked the following weekend and BM came back from his honeymoon in time to be at our wedding!

Wow, that is some reality for us. The thought that we may not find what we want on our desired date hadn't even occured to me! We are going to have a friend be the officiant, so now we need a venue a.s.a.p.! Is there a standard advanced booking time?

Thank you for the warm welcome! I am really happy to find such an active community to help us through this Smiley smile

Jodi, if Sept. is a popular wedding month where you live, start looking now. Some venues may not book more than 1 year in advance, but start looking anyway!

Definately have to choose your venue before setting a date in stone. Best bet is to choose a month or season and be flexible. We booked a place his past september for this upcoming september.. A year out and it was the ONLY saturday available for their entire fall season, and that was because of a cancellation. You have to be flexible if yoi find a venue you fall in love with.

And you should definately have your guest list pretty much finalized before looking for venues.. Why look at a venue that holds 100 if theres a chance tht youre lost will go to 120. Even if you dont think some will show up, they may surprise you

    Hi Jodi,

I have started an Event and Photo business and would love to help if you would like a planner to help out. I know it can get stressful. I got married about a year and a half ago and my mother and I planned the whole thing under $10,000 and in a 6 week time span. I live in Ocala, Fl but can do all the looking up and getting info gor venues, caterers, florists and anything else you may need. My email is *.*.*.************@*****.*** if you would like a planner let me know and we can get started by having you fill out a form so i can know the theme n color scheme to get you what you want for a perfect wedding.

I have been looking at different options all morning. I am hoping the because we are looking at a Friday, it may make things a bit easier. Already saved a ton of site vendors and contacted two that look promising. Funny, 18 months away and the pressure is already tremendous! Our personal list was 100, so we are shopping for 120 venues as we know Moms are going to tip us over Smiley winking
