We have a venue, now what? What is the best thing to start with when planning?

Hello, I am newly engaged and could not be happier! I have the best fiance in the world and am truly madly in love with him. We are getting married 11-7-14 (Far away I know)and we already have venue booked. We are on a tight budget and I already feel flustered. I did get a wedding planning handbook, but I'd rather hear from those with real like experience. Are bridal shows waste of time? are there any wedding dress companies that mail out free catalogs? I've heard a few people talk about having things sponsored, so that you can get things donated to you? Please your words of wisdom are much appreciated. Thank you in advance. ~Dannielle~

My date is 10-10-14 - so right before yours.

I picked the venue about 2 weeks ago and then my list is like the below:
**This doesn't mean all of this is done yet - just my thought process - suggestions welcome on the order or if I missed something ***

Entertainment - already booked
Photographer
Blocking out rooms @ hotel
Dress
Flowers - ordering tomorrow
Centerpieces - starting this weekend
E-Photos
STDs
Rings - mine is done
Invites
Plane Tickets/Car Rental/Hotel Reservations

Oh and top of my list for sure is to lose 30 lbs I've gained over the past 4 years.

Congratulations!!!!! The bridal shows are free - most offer you 4 free tickets. At the top of this site is a tabs labeled events. All the upcoming bridal shows are listed with the website to sign up for your free tickets. I enjoyed the show I went to and I'm planning to attend another one - just to get ideas on what's out there. I did give them my information and no one has has hassled me yet. Good luck in your progress!
