We finally decided to change our date to 2021

Priscilla, on June 20, 2020 at 9:48 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
Our wedding was scheduled for 10/2/2020. We decided yesterday to postpone until 10/1/2021. Nothing seems to calming down with COVID and we half expected things to be further along right now. We have family coming in from all over the Country, so we decided to play it safe and grab the reschedule date we want sooner rather than later. Luckily, all of our vendors rescheduled without any issues whatsoever.

Everyone keeps asking if I’m okay. Like I should be grieving or something. But I dunno, I’m not concerned at all about it. My fiancé and I are still getting married as planned in our backyard. I kind of like the idea of having a small intimate wedding with just the core family and then having an epic wedding party on our one year anniversary!
But, I feel a little overwhelmed having to plan another Mini wedding in three months. Anyone have any advice, cost saving tips, and/or backyard wedding Pinterest inspiration boards? Also, what should we do for food?!? BBQ? Catering? Potluck?
Anyone whose had to improv their wedding this year, I’d love to get your input.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Hi I’m in the same exact boat doing the same exact thing as you!! I’m renting a tent with tables and chairs and I’m setting it up for the ceremony then for food after. I’m having my florist come decorate, my photographer come and videographer. Reverend is coming to marry us as well. I’m going to just cater it have someone come and deliver it and set it up my florist is nice enough to get my cake for me at the bakery I was originally using and that’s pretty much how I’m doing it. Loading up the zoom for those who can’t be there physically. I think you can truly be as flexible as you want since it’s your own backyard event!

Im in the same boat! My fiancé and I just made the decision to postpone our 10/3/20 to Fall 2021 (new date TBD!) We are still deciding whether we want to legally get married this year. We are considering getting married just the two of us at the courthouse and then having another ceremony in a year where we renew our vows in front of friends and family. It sounds odd to have “two weddings” but there are no rules anymore!

I love your idea of doing the small backyard wedding with just core family. I’m going to follow this thread to see what other people suggest Smiley smile

It’s a really interesting position 2020 has put us in. With regards to getting married this year, definitely a personal choice. We wanted to bring some joy to our family after such a roller coaster of a year and a small celebration would be a much needed reprieve from it all.

A lot of my friends got married at the courthouse and they skipped the big celebration. I personally wouldn’t want to do that but to each their own.
I hope that whatever you guys decide you are 100% happy with it. Also, silver lining, it makes for an awesome story to tell future kids! Haha. “Mom tell me about your wedding?” “Well let me tell you about the pandemic of 2020...” lol 😆

That’s sounds amazing!!! I think we may use our rehearsal venue to cater. Everyone else we have pushed to next year.

Hi Priscilla!! Everyone is reacting differently to how covid is impacting their wedding plans, so I'm really glad to hear that you're doing well and feeling good about your wedding plans! Smiley heart

For your intimate ceremony I'd keep things as simple as possible so you don't overwhelm yourself with details! With a smaller crew you should have a lot more affordable catering options, and I think they key to decorating your backyard is to focus on a focal point for the ceremony like an arch or flanking floral arrangements!

Thank you. The way things have turned out in N.J. I’m glad we did. Indoor dining has been suspended indefinitely at the moment so at least we aren’t scrambling.
