We didn't reach our Minimum!

I am disappointed. We didn't reach our minimum of 200, because we had 40% say "NO". I never expected such a high percentage of No's. Economy to blame? So we will have to pay for 25-30 empty plates. I should enjoy my wedding day, but I know I will just fret that we are losing a couple thousand over...

Anyone else in the same situation?

I have a food and beverage minimum so I guess I will be shooting out an email to the vendor. What I did do was have them estimate for the least amount of guests that would put me the closest to my minimum. So I guessed 125 but had them do it for 118. As for the Korean wedding Laura, it was beautiful and there were definitely 400 folks there. The reception was interesting because there weren't assigned seats and the buffet was there when you walked in the door so you had to decide between finding a seat or eating. I found a seat and then ate. The reception was pretty traditional first dance yada yada...slide show. But after dinner half the guests left! My friend warned me that this would happen but I was shocked. Apparently its tradition. So for the rest of us that stayed...there was music and party games. I really had a nice time and my friend looked gorgeous! I'll have to get picks from her because my camera wasn't charged and didn't fit in my little black bag.

As a follow up, the venue charged us for the least expensive meal (for our 40 empty plates) and offered to give us late night food for free. We lost some money, but they were able to cut some corners to make it a little better. This is a warning to future brides, PLEASE know that lately since this summer (the venue has admitted) overall attendance is LOW. The economy is affecting lots of people and many will say no to your wedding. We had only 60% say yes. Plan accordingly!!!

O my I hate that they do that; but understand. You have some great opportunity definitely try to negoitate it for something else- but most of them don't so definitely invite others- just say you ran out of invites, or make sure your guests can have seconds-or donate to your homeless shelter. Get a hold of someone there (homeless shelter) and they can come and help pack up the rest of the food, plus it becomes a tax deduction... so you save in the end!

I had the complete opposite- I had count on 100- invited 150- had 215 come!! Luckily the banquet hall accomodated- for a fee of course, but what a blast. But that is another story. In my case that 40% did not work!
