Ways to Make Cocktail Hour More Fun?

Chantelle, on May 8, 2020 at 11:55 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
Hello! Just wondering if anyone has any ideas to make cocktail hour more fun or interactive for guests? Ideas either from your own weddings or things you’ve experienced at other weddings! I know mingling for about an hour with some booze and food after the ceremony is normal, but just trying to think of ways to make it more fun or interesting. As many ideas are welcome!

My cocktail space kinda has three sections that guests can float in and out of so the “fun or interactive” doesn’t have to fit one set vibe since there are multiple areas. Thank You!

Depends on where/when your reception is held. Most people have upbeat music the dj plays. Interactive food stations. Guests mingling.

I have never seen but read suggestions for various other activities such as photobooths, temporary/permanent tattoos, magicians, fortune tellers, etc. You're only limited by imagination and budget.

We had an animal presentation at our wedding (it was at the Safari Park) and had an electric violinist walking around playing hip hop/rap and R&B songs.

I’ve been to weddings with lawn games, tarot readings, and some had their photo booth open during the cocktail hour.

We are doing the lawn games at our wedding in the cocktail area that can be accessed all night. We have oversized Jenga, cornhole, an oversized bowling game, giant connect four and a giant tic tac toe. My FH always said he hated going to weddings where people just stand around, talk and dance, so he wanted other activities to do. He also wants to set up a Nintendo Wii and have Mario Party available to play as well.

I work in the wedding world and two of my favorite weddings have had 1.) cotton candy and popcorn at a historic merry-go-round which was also operational and 2.) a caricature artist who stayed during reception as well!
