Way to “save” seats

Abby, on July 9, 2019 at 8:04 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
My fiancé and I have decided we don’t want a seating chart for the reception. Our families get along and we trust they can find a seat (less stress for us). We will be doing buffet-style, so there isn’t a need for name cards or anything to mark meals.
However, we want a way for guests to mark their spot and be able to get up and get drinks/mingle without worrying about their seat being taken. Our venue does their own glasses, so a marked glass wouldn’t work.

TIA for all of your ideas!!

Just an FYI, if you don’t do assigned seating, make sure to have extra tables and chairs. People will most likely be pulling chairs from other tables or saving seats to sit with people they know. That’s why we are assigning tables and not individual seats (we are doing a buffet as well).

have you checked out Pinterest for some ideas for saving glasses?

I would still do place cards even though you’re doing a buffet! Guests can grab their card as they walk into the reception room and use it to “claim” their seat.

That's why we assigned tables and let guests pick their seat st the table. They could use their name card to reserve the seats they wanted.

I agree with PP's, it is really so much easier for guests to know what table to sit at and also takes care of the "saving" seat issue. Plus you dont' need extra seating. It only takes about an hour of your time - I would highly recommend.

We're assigning tables because of the reasons listed above, and also because we sat by ourselves at the last wedding we went to without seat assignments. We got custom coasters to use during the wedding/as favors, and we're going to pair those with a name card that people can grab on their way in and leave at their seat. I've seen coasters that have a place to write a name - maybe something like that could work for you?
