Wax Seals

Did anyone use wax seals for their invitations? I LOVE the idea. Did you have to pay for extra postage? What are your tips?

They are good if you do not live or mail to hot places. Im from florida where an average day could be in the 90s the wax and beautiful image would be ruined.

We are planning to use wax seals for our invitations and thank yous. I too was concerned about the weight and having enough postage so I purchased a small food/postage scale on Amazon ($10) to make sure. Most of the envelopes (and I have DIY belly bands with a charm and am also including the RD and Day-After Brunch invitations too) were about 1.5 oz. I ended up using the 2oz stamps and the additional oz stamps (they are cheaper than putting on two Forever stamps as an additional ounce is only $0.21.

Depending on the thickness of paper and design of the invite suite (extras like belly bands etc) adding a wax seal can add to the price. they do weigh in on the postage price. it is definitely something to consider.
they are beautiful, but some post offices - at least the ones in my area for the most part - treat most mail like crap... they'll show up with marks on them, postage stamps and print marks, extra stuff - i considered them too, until i remembered how mail comes into my work every day, because our department its the one who gets/collects/opens/distributes company mail. it comes trashed. i would hate to spend all that time and effort for it to not be beautiful when it arrives to my guests so i decided to skip it.
they are gorgeous though. etsy has plenty of sellers that sell custom stampers and the colored waxes. its entirely up to you.

We used wax seals on our favors. I was told by several people that the wax seal does not hold up well in the mail.

Hand delivered them to the post office and request that the wedding invitations be hand-processed or hand-canceled.
"Machines at mail centers can only process certain envelope shapes and sizes—generally rectangles that are a minimum of 3.5 by 5 inches to a maximum of 6.125 by 11.5 inches. If your envelope is an odd shape (say, square), even if it falls within those dimensions, you may end up paying a 20 cent non-machinable fee per envelope. With larger invites (more than 3.5 ounces or bigger than 6.125 by 11.5 inches), like a boxed invitation, you won't have to pay the surcharge to hand-process them. Even if your invitation doesn't meet the non-machinable criteria, consider paying the extra fee to have them hand-processed—it will guarantee that your mail will be sorted by a person rather than a machine, which can bend or soil envelopes. Another option is hand-canceling (just a stamp that says your mail is processed). In most cases, this option is free, but check with your local post office first to make sure they have a hand stamp. The big caveat: Most post offices try to keep hand-canceled mail separate from regular mail, but there's no guarantee your invitations won't also go through the processing machines."

I hope I'm not too late to the thread, but I used the glue gun-style wax seals to seal the pockets of my invitations and they turned out great. My invites were about 1.5oz including the outer envelope and I just used a 2oz wedding stamp from the post office. From what I can tell, the seals are shipping to people intact and there's been no problems with delivery. I think if you use a stronger type of wax (don't use a candle or "breakable" wax) and have an outer envelope, you'll be fine.

My invites have an invitation card, an RSVP card, an RSVP envelope, a paper belly band, and a wax seal and the weight was .9 oz so I can use the 1 oz stamp! I am only doing the wax seals on top of the belly band, not on the outer envelope.
