Wax seal, double sided tape, other?

A. L., on February 27, 2017 at 10:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

This is a strange question, I think, but how did you seal your invitation envelopes? FH does have a wax seal, but I'm not sure we want to pay the extra postage for it.

I wouldn't use a wax seal because they would get so beaten up in the sorting machine at the post office. And even if you hand cancel some still put it in the machine anyway

Are the regular envelopes? Use a damp q-tip to moisten the glue strip (so you don't have to lick them all) and they'll be fine.

Wax seals will get destroyed by post office machines. Just seal them normally or use a sticker if you're really concerned

FH and I will just dampen the existing glue, and I'll probably make stickers with my Silhouette.

I used a damp paintbrush to wet the seal on the envelope so I didn't have to lick them. It worked great! I was gonna do a sticker seal on them but FH thought it was a waste of money when we could spend it elsewhere so I skipped it. $15 saved! Every bit counts! Lol

If you really want a wax seal, you could always put it on the belly band on the inside so it doesn't get ruined by the machines, though it will still raise the price.

When my friends and I send each other letters we always just use the wax on the letter itself, and then seal it in the envelope.

I am not sure what a belly band is, but we don't have those.

I think we'll probably just do the moistener thing. Thanks.

You can use a decorative sticker?

We ordered our invitations from Smock and they sent us those little dab-n-seal envelope moistener sticks for free! They work really well and are only a few bucks online!

I would have loved to do a wax seal for ours, but as PP pointed out, they are time and labor intensive, and there's no guarantee they'll be delivered in good condition. We just used a damp paper towel to activate the seal that was already on the envelope. I like the idea of decorative stickers, too!

We did a wax seal on ours and it was a huge hit! They actually will not go through any machines, because they are non-machinable, and will be marked accordingly. So far everyone has gotten them intact, and in great condition!

It did not take us that long either, we did 90 invitations over the course of a weekend, (probably 2 hours total, and that includes practicing!)

We had round stickers made, very inexpensive and it dressed the back of the envelope up Smiley smile

We have mailed things with wax seals before and they were fine. We are planning to seal the envelope closed, then do the wax seal so that even if it comes off it'll still be closed.

I use a damp wash cloth whenever I have to close a bunch of envelopes. I hate the taste of the glue.

I just licked them all, and then I used a sticker in the shake of Texas. Mostly for it to be cute but it's also some extra stick

Glue stick. Easy, simple, and cheap. I bought a personalized stamp to dress up the other side of the envelope... one that we can use for our mail in the future too

The envelope should have gum on it, to lick and seal it shut. If it doesn't, this is an inner envelope, and should be left unsealed. You can always use pretty stickers or labels to secure them shut if you don't want to lick all those envelopes.

I'm just going to use a small craft sponge and dip in water and wet the existing glue. I am going to add a little piece of washi tape to dress it up a little, too.

I also had the same concerns about wax seals (more expensive and might get beaten up through the mail). I found sealing wax in glue stick form so the process is quite easy. The plan is then to use it on the inner envelope. I weighed a complete invitation and it is less than an ounce so I should only need one forever stamp. It can be done!

ETA: Outer envelopes will be good old fashioned spit Smiley smile
