Water Pitcher Size for Reception Tables

MrsParkCity, on March 12, 2018 at 5:31 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

My question is how big should the water pitchers be?

Here's some details and my plan so far...
- Our wedding is being held at a farm that doesn't have safe drinking water.
- I'm trying to avoid the caterer watering service.
- I've decided against water bottles due to waste and appearance. Yaaay real glasses!!!
- On each table, water glasses will be filled, and there will be a water pitcher ready (but what size?). All other cups/glasses/drinks will need to be acquired from the bar area.
- Each table (except our sweetheart table) will sit 8 guests.
- If emptied, water pitchers can be refilled/replaced at the bar.
- Yes, we will be offering beer, wine, and (not certain yet) but a specialty cocktail or two.
- Guests are welcome to carry any drinks they may have acquired during cocktail hour into the barn to their seats.

With our other drink options available, is a 1 gallon pitcher too big; could I get away with 1 liter bottles? I've seen people use the 1 liter bottles as table numbers too. I'd like the pitcher refill option to be available at the bar, but if possible I'm trying to limit the amount of refilling people may need to do.

This is literally my last reception table decor item to be planned... I'm so close. Help!

I'd suggest putting a nice water carafe or clear bottle on each table. As long as they can be refilled, it's enough. A carafe will be much less intrusive and elegant than a big picher. A carafe will also be easier for your guests to handle. I attached a picture of the table at my wedding for reference. There were 2 bottles on each table and they sat 10.

Are the guests going to have to take the pitcher up to be refilled themselves? I don't think a liter will be enough. I'd have 2-3 liters on each table, a gallon might be easily spilled and can only pour one glass at a time.

I’d put 4 of the 1 liter carafes on the table. When you think about it, that’s only 1 standard size (500ml) water bottle per guest. As a wedding guest I wouldn’t want to walk in heels to refill a water pitcher. I’d err on the side of too much water rather than too little.

I’d also say over instead of under. A liter per 2 people could be a good start. I for one can easily down a full liter myself during the course of a meal
