I'm having reception at winery, and the only water available is 1$ plastic bottles that are a waste and will eat up my bar tab. Would it be too complicated to have carafes at each table, with a 5 gallon jug (water cooler type) with one of those pour spouts in it for guests to fill up own carafe? I dont want them to have to fill up each individual glass at a large dispenser, I want it available at table. Doing cheap catering buffet style, probably a drop off situation, so there are no servers. Is there a way to "decorate" the giant water jug so it's not so tacky? Or os this too complicated? And how much will I need???

Could you just do big water dispensers in a central location? They would be more aesthetically pleasing than a cooler.

I’m really unsure of the carafe idea, it could spill on your centerpieces or the guests meals, a spill that large would be a lot more of a mess than cups. With no servers and that many guests it would worry me a bit.
Guests are used to getting their own drinks at parties, I don’t think anyone would mind a designated drink table. You could still have your carafe there or you could use a drink dispenser and punch up the water a bit with lemon slices. It would look very nice.
As for a cute carafe idea, what about a shabby chic milk glass style one? Milk glass always looks beautiful at weddings.
