Wanna get MAUI'D

Carrie_NYC24, on March 15, 2015 at 6:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

My dream is to get married in Hawaii, however I think it would be way too expensive. Has anyone here ever gotten married in Hawaii? If so, how many people attended? where was the location? how much did it cost?

Thanks- as much details as possible would be really appreciated!

Well I live in Hawaii and didn't even want to get married here if that tells you anything! Haha, the reason we're not getting married in Hawaii though is actually because we wanted to have all our friends and family with us and they all live on the mainland. So we are bringing Hawaii to California. California is still super expensive but it is tough on guests to fly out to Hawaii, stay in expensive hotels, etc. However if you want to keep the guest list small I think Hawaii is a good idea. Just check first with the people you'd absolutely want there to make sure it'll work for them. Otherwise you'll have to sacrifice the people closest to you for the beauty of Hawaii. If you do go the route of Hawaii, I'd probably recommend Oahu because there are definitely budget options for hotels for guests, plus it is more populated so you have a better chance of finding good deals. For instance, my FH and I do wedding photography on the side and it's just a side job so we can charge less than most people, so you'll have opportunities to find more people like that on Oahu. However other photographers we looked at that had decent but not great photography were extremely high priced (we just wanted some e-pics and one person wanted to charge $250 for only an hour of pictures and all you got in the end was 5 photos...they were nuts). I'd say if you're coming as a destination wedding to expect under about 30 people. Talk to those closest to you first, then decide if this is the way you want to go.

And if you do want Hawaii...and are interested in photography let me know. I can also help recommend some other great resources at least on Oahu! Best of luck deciding!

We are getting Maui'D in Nov. 2015. We just cant wait! We live in California. We wanted a small intimate wedding and a wonderful Honeymoon, our budget is 6K, Our Ceremony is on the Beach that includes a Photographer w/ over 75+ touched photos & a Ukulele Player for under $800, of course Flights our the most costly at $2700 for five people, however two of those flights our for an extra week at a higher cost (teehee) and our room and board was gifted by FH parents on their time share account (Thank you). Upon returning to California we are hosting our Reception the Venue, Dj, and catering came to us for FREE! Oh also we are using our Credit card points to cash in on $50 visa's to bring on our trip for most of our spending! So even with a small budget it is possible to have what you want , you just need to be creative and not take no for an answer hehe. We have about 30 people coming and we are hosting three events, Welcome dinner (fri), Family Beach Pic-nic (sat) ,Wedding/Dinner (sun) m-f open for family vacations. Smiley smile Hope this helps.

No experience, but it's going to be expensive. You might not have a large attendance.

But, I wanted to comment that you should use "We're getting MAUI'D" on a STD or something. I've never heard that before and I think it's adorable.
