Walking to ceremony space?

Latonya, on February 11, 2020 at 11:06 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 22

Good morning lovely brides.

I have chosen the venue I want my reception at and can save $500-$800 if I hold the ceremony some place else. Well there is a church that I can use to host my ceremony that is basically next door or in the next block to the hotel. Its a very short 5 min walk up the street (past the hotels parking garage). I was wondering if its odd to walk to the ceremony space? Would you brides do it? or should I just have the ceremony in the same space?

FYI - just trying to think of ways to save some funds. lol

I think that's normal. There's plenty of times I been to weddings where the ceremony is at a church and the reception is at a venue or restaurant somewhere else

It's not that far of a walk so I'd be ok with it

My concerns would be the terrain during the walk causing your dress to get dirty/ripped/etc and what you would do in case of inclement weather.

That's a perfectly reasonable walk, go for it!

Its all sidewalk. My train & dress can be carried. I can maneuver through the garage if need be since its covered to the side street of the church. I think weather could be an issue. Im struggling bc im wondering if i want to stuff myself in a car to drive literally up the street. lol

Does the hotel have a shuttle that they would consider using to shuttle you and the wedding party to the church? (Perhaps a first run with the men, and then a second run with the women and your parents, if dad/they are walking you down the aisle.) My two biggest considerations would be bad weather (even if you can mostly stay dry in the parking garage, do you want to schlep through a parking garage in your wedding gown?) and guests seeing you prior to the ceremony. For those reasons only, I'd probably try to arrange some kind of transportation (even though it is a 5-minute walk...I get the practicality of just walking). Also, are there any elderly/disabled guests who might also need to be transported? If the hotel doesn't have a shuttle, another option might be a friend or family member not directly involved in the wedding party who owns a large SUV or minivan; you could ask if they'd be willing to help transport the wedding party/nonambulatory guests around the corner. I'd just make sure they'd be able to park and get into the church before the ceremony begins.... Good luck!

Is your reception at the hotel?

I would just have someone drive me to the ceremony. I wouldn't want to walk in my wedding dress and risk getting wind blown hair or too hot.

I see lots of brides here in Philadelphia that do that. Personally I wouldn't because I don't want people beeping and honking or being the center of attention for strangers.

Yea i am thinking of all of those things. Its a 2 min walk actually. I timed it. There is no shuttle because there is no airport in this city so no need for the hotel to have a shuttle service. The only elderly is honestly my grandmother and grandfather (who get around better than me half the time. lol)

Thank you for your response and helping me :-)

Yea its not a far walk. I dont know if u already mentioned this or not but is there an option for you to drive your car? If the only option is to walk then definitely go for it but I would think it would be slightly easier to carry ur dress to the church (If u have the option of dressing at the church) and drive from church to the reception so ur not dragging ur dress on the ground

Let me rephrase * its going to be easier to carry ur dress to the church than it is to walk in ur dress from the Church to venue. So if car is an option have someone drive u and u can take up the whole backseat

It’s literally across the street. Like a 2 min walk. I could possibly get dressed at the church but I wouldn’t get the pictures I desire.

Ok then go for it. Sounds like u dont mind it. If it was me I would drive just a personal preference but regardless I would definitely save the money & go with the church.
