Walking out of the church song...

Carly, on January 10, 2012 at 11:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Ok...i literally have every song picked out for my wedding. down to dinner songs lol. except i cannot find one that i like or that is appropriate for a church! i was going to see if any of you lovely ladies had suggestions or could share with me what you are walking out to?

my BM entrance song is : piano cover of "more than a feeling" by boston

my entrance: piano cover of "sweet child'o'mine"

parents/gparents seating song: electric harp cover of "dream on" by aerosmith

and if we end up doing a unity ceremony the song will be a piano cover of "all of my love" by led zeppelin.

if that gives you a taste of our musical preferences lol!

look forward to hearing what you ladies have done or are going to do!

We're in a church but we're basically dancing out to "I'm A Believer"- Smashmouth. Smiley smile

Our songs are all hymns, so I don't know if my choices would help you lol. Smiley smile

    Tesla's Love Song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QD5n98R_nk

"Bron yr Aur" is another really pretty Led Zeppelin song. It's a slow instrumental, I think it's about 2 minutes long? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQKQ3-bzXV8

If you like goofy 80s rock, the chorus part of Major Tom is actually really pretty. About 1:02 into this video. You could probably get a remixed version. Ich liebe my Germans. Smiley smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql4kaofJ02c&feature=fvst

We're having trouble with this one too. We're doing piano/violin covers for our entrances songs, but want something fun for the exit. We're thinking about "I would walk 500 miles" by the Proclaimers since we started off in a long distance relationship. But we're not sure...so thanks for posting Smiley smile

@Ariel, that's totally cute. Smiley smile

A lot of Pink Floyd songs actually sound SUPER amazing and classical when they're played on classical instruments like harp or piano. We did a montage of Pink Floyd music in marching band when I was in school and none of our parents realized it was rock. Smiley smile

    @Judith. Excellent choice!!!

One of FH's friends did her entrance to an instrumental version of Silent Lucidity.

I think i am going to add that Bron yr Aur song into the pre-ceremony music while everyone is waiting. its super pretty. i am thinking about adding that baba o'riley to the reception music somehow...maybe when they announce the speeches...or maybe right at the end of dinner to get ppl pumped to party?

D'oh! How did I forget Foghat???!? ::hangs head in shame::

So what church is letting you play Guns'n'Roses and Foghat and Aerosmith? That's pretty awesome. Instrumental versions of a lot of 70s and 80s rock ballads are actually really pretty, b/c people actually had to know how to play their instruments back then lol. But I would think most pastors hear Aerosmith and say no without blinking. Smiley smile

FYI - When you're doing your searches, these are called recessionals. Smiley smile

It depends on the venue, but we've used lots of things in the past:

Walking on Sunshine - Katrina & The Waves

Love is My Religion - Ziggy Marley (It's what Sue and I used. Smiley smile

If you want something over the top but the venue is saying 'No' you can check out Vitamin String Quartet for some alternatives. They have all sorts of songs arranged and played by a string quartet. I've played everything from Enter Sandman, to Back in Black and Hell's Bells, to you name it from them and they worked great. Be prepared to dig though... they have over 40 albums out (and I have most of them Smiley smile BTW, I prefer their cover of 'You're Beautiful' to James Blunt's version.

Remember to talk with your DJ if they're involved in the ceremony - sometimes they can help come up with some great ideas for alternative music to the 'traditional'.

Um.....MusicMeister. I am now in love with Vitamin String Quartet. Can you imagine what that would sound like live? Do they produce sheet music? I don't see it on their website but I see these press releases online from 2009 and 2010 saying it's "coming soon".

@Kris S - I've not been able to get sheet music, but their recordings are very good. Smiley smile

For something a little more 'out there' and with a bit of an eastern feel the West 52nd Street Buddha Lounge Ensemble has a few albums and some tracks are better than others.

There's a reason I tell people to talk with their DJ. Smiley winking I once spent 12 hours in a single marathon session listening to music to help a couple find just the right tracks for their ceremony. They knew the 'feel' they wanted but had no idea where to begin... Some are better than others when it comes to this stuff, but you CAN ask for help. Smiley smile

I am getting married in a small town methodist church. they really arent picky. and the instrumentals i picked are really really pretty. they dont sound rock n roll at all, but its still a way to keep our personalities in there somewhere. i will probably ask about foghat though just because it wont be an instrumental. =]
