Walking Down the Aisle

Crystal, on July 1, 2022 at 7:18 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9
So….. traditionally I planned on having my dad walk me down the isle. But now I’m starting to have second thoughts and prefer to walk by myself. Nothing against my dad, he’s great, but the “isle way” at our venue is very short and narrow. It’s literally a few feet of walking space on a patio deck. I don’t want to feel smothered and I really want my dress to show. I kind of want that moment to myself…taking it all in… during my short 10 second walk lol

Anyone walk by themselves? How was your experience walking down the isle (solo/escorted)?

I haven't had my wedding yet but I'll be walking myself also!

I walked by myself and I loved it! My aisle was on the shorter side, but also instead of being "given away", I felt like I was my own person making my own decisions. Back straight, shoulders back, own that aisle!

I think I’ll still do that portion when I get to the end of the aisle and have my parents stand up. I’m not too fond of the wording so will definitely change it. But I do want something that shows “we respect this union and welcome our new son into our family”.

I will be walking myself. This is my second wedding and I had my dad and my uncle (my mom passed away 5 months before that wedding and in her place I asked her brother) walk me down for that event. This time around I'm older, wiser, did the proposing to the groom, and am embracing all of that.

The decision is yours and what feels right to you!

I’m thinking about going down solo too. I proposed and nobody is “giving me away” so it feels right. I’m just stressing about what my parents will think about it. Still deciding…

I mean shoot! You’ve already been doing things your way, why stress about anyone else now? Do what you want on your walk!!! I didn’t discuss it with anyone, of course I’ll mention it to my fiancé but at the end of the day it is my decision.

I haven’t seen a bride walk herself, but I have seen a bride escorted by both parents (that’s what I’m doing). Either way I think it’ll be fine so long as you can walk without tripping over anything lol.
