walking down the aisle with a handicap father

Lisa, on December 9, 2024 at 5:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

My father is older with limited mobility. He has to walk with a cane on his left side. Does it matter when we walk down the aisle (non-church wedding) that he will need to be on my left side? I have a train on my dress and I definitely do not want him try to step over or around the dress risk him losing his balance and fall. He is very concerned about the walk so we are trying to figure it out.

He can be on whichever side works best for you both! There are no rules on that. If being on your left side is easiest for him when walking down the aisle, then I would go with that plan.

It's really up to you what you decide. I even flipped the guest list so my side could see my face instead of my back. Another idea may be you can walk the first half solo, and halfway your father joins you (from a seat) to walk the rest of the way. I believe Prince Charles walked Meghan Markle halfway at her wedding. Best wishes.
