Walking down the aisle solo?

Deidra, on December 28, 2020 at 3:50 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 20
Has anyone been to a wedding where someone walked solo down the aisle or is anyone planning to? I don’t have the greatest relationship with my father and my mother won’t be attending because she is in the late stages of a disease. I do have a brother but I just feel like I am a grown women of 35, who is successful and been on my own for many years. Is it weird to walk alone? It’s the only way I picture it.

I don't think it's weird at all to walk alone! I initially was planning to walk down the aisle alone, but my fiance and I decided that we will walk down the aisle together instead. It's totally up to you and whatever you are comfortable with.

Yes, one of my cousins walked down alone. In england, COVID mandates banned fathers from walking down the aisle with the bride unless they live together : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/weddings/government-guidelines-on-post-lockdown-weddings-england-a4483366.html%3famp.

I don't have the best relationship with my father so he won't be walking me down the aisle.

I’ve seen it done multiple times and it’s not weird at all! It’s 2020, women don’t need to be escorted down the aisle anymore, we’ve got this. 😉

I as well do not have a relationship with my father. In fact, he will not be coming to the wedding. I have five sisters, no brothers and no one to help “pass the torch”. Age does not matter whether you walk along side family or alone. My older sister did it and so will I. My friend’s mother walked her down the isle and it was beautiful.

It's so not weird! Do what makes sense for you! I would feel weird with just one parent so I'm having both do it. If not, I'd go solo since I haven't lived even within the same state as them for over ten years now and I'm definitely giving MYSELF away, if anything. 😅💪

I walked alone. My brother is wayyyyyy to shy to walk me down and we only had him and two friends plus my dad died when I was 13. Honestly in the moment of seeing my groom and nerves and excitement I did not feel lonely or sad I was walking alone. You could do it. Smiley smile

I will either walk myself down or have my 5 year old son walk me down the aisle.

My SIL walked by herself, and I’ll be doing the same thing. I’ve always pictured it that way.

My parents are both deceased, my sister is my MOH, but I still plan on walking down the aisle alone.

I am walking myself down the aisle as well! I agree with you - I am a grown woman who is not being "given away" - this is a partnership I am entering into on my own free will! I also don't have a relationship with my father where I want him walking with me.

You will look great and you will be focused on getting to your partner anyhow!

Most guests see a bride's escort as someone close to her calming her nerves, keeping her steady and slow on the way to the altar, so she doesn't freeze like a deer in the headlights walking alone. Hardly anyone in this day and age sees it as transferring property but there is always one who does.

Yup! It didn’t seem weird or anything at all.
I was going to walk alone but apparently my older brother has been looking forward to it his whole life or something because he so excited LOL so he’ll do it.

I was going to do the same as im an older bride and my father was in a wheel chair. Unfortunately he passed away before im getting married due to having to put off my wedding due to this pandemic. But I see nothing wrong with it. Do what you want as its your day.
