Walking down the aisle in a same sex ceremony

Ashley, on June 26, 2017 at 11:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

So instead of the typical walking down the center aisle we wanted to do something where we can walk towards each other perhaps in front and then meet at the alter. We both want the experience of watching the other walk down the aisle. The venue we are looking at makes that plan kind of tricky though. We've figured out some elaborate ways to still make it work aha but I was wondering what some other same sex couples have tried?

We considered that but I know I'm going to want to actually watch her walk down the aisle. If we walked together id probably just stare at her the whole time and end up tripping hahaha

Do you perhaps have a picture of the ceremony location?

My sister and her GF were thinking about starting at the end of the aisle together (entrance) walking around the chairs to each other, meeting at the altar. Smiley smile

It was hard to find a good picture

    That's a cute idea though!

Can you set the chairs up in a circular pattern around the alter? One comes from one side of the circle, the other comes from the opposite, and you meet in the middle? Kind of like this?

Maybe have half the chairs pointed the other way (so the 2 middle rows sort of face eachother, with some space so its not awkward of course) and each walk to one end and stop, one of you walks halfway then the other meets you halfway and the ceremony itself happens in the middle. That way you can each stop and watch the other for a bit and appreciate the feeling ...?

Oh my gosh I've never seen that before!!!! That's such a rad idea. It might still be a little hard in the field we are looking at but we will definitely have to consider the circle

Oh no we definitely don't want to get ready or do a first look. The first time I want to see her that day will definitely be the ceremony. Couples walk this little path that leads from the bridal and groom suites. We were thinking of setting up tent like things from either end of the aisle and we could use covered golf carts to get over there and then we would walk out of the tents and toward each other. But that just sounds like a lot and I don't know if it's too clunky of a plan or not. And we'd need some way to dress up the golf cart and tent.

Thanks! I thought about doing this for ours, but the ceremony space is on a deck overlooking a lake, so it wouldn't quite work out. Glad this helps!

I attended my best friend's same sex wedding. They each walked down the aisle with their mom and dad escorting them. It was really sweet.

We aren't being escorted down the aisle because her dad isn't present in her life and doesn't have an alternative.

What if each of you started at either end of the aisle and walked toward the middle. Then both of you walk to alter together.

@Helena I'm trying to get a picture of that in my head. Would It be like a triangle shaped aisle or something that cuts through the seats?

This may sound odd, but what if you both walked down on the outside of the chairs (not down the aisle) on opposite sides, then walked towards the altar in front? Then you would see each other walking toward the middle and meet for the ceremony.

We definitely want to walk together, luckily our venue will probably be able to accommodate entry from two points, we could meet and then walk the rest of the way together holding hands. We also want to do a first look because we are both criers and we want to get some time together and nerves out before the ceremony.

We probably won't be given away because her mom and dad don't really get along well and it would be awkward to pick one over the other.

Would love to hear what you end up doing!
