Walk to Parking

Nicole, on July 9, 2019 at 3:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We are having a backyard wedding this October. One of our logistical problems is parking. We have a large space for parking that is just under 1/4 of a mile from the wedding spot. The trail will be well lit with lights and wee will have at least one if not more golf carts to shuttle people. We are also going to offer accessible parking up right next to the wedding spot. It is just too many cars to have everyone park at the wedding site. Is that reasonable? I am so stressed about logistics and this is the #1 problem we have. I don't want my guests to hike but it's also one of the only spots available.

I think you have it handed with the golf carts. Some people may actually like the walk. I would be ok with it, If someone isn't able to walk as easily you have the golf carts for them. I think you got this!

As long as you have the golf carts for people who don't want to/can't walk you should be fine.

Wow, the golf carts are a great touch, especially for those who may be drunk, and will have trouble navigating to their vehicles. I think you did a good thing with that. Amazing.

The only other thing is I would be sure to tell (warn???) people ahead of time -- especially women -- about the walk. If I'm wearing comfortable shoes, I'd walk 10 miles for you if I had to. But, if I'm wearing the type of shoes I might normally wear to a wedding and then found out I had to walk quarter mile on a "trail," I'd be pretty irritated. So, I'd definitely include this info on the website, and I'd probably also put it on a details card with the invitation to make sure people knew the plan.

I think I will include a map of the walking trail and parking with a note that says we will have golf carts.

I think you you logistically have it figured out. Maybe identify individuals on your guest list that you know will need accessible parking and inform them in advance. Make a separate list for those who would actually need "shuttled" and provide them with a number to call/text when they park so they can get picked up. Just a couple of ideas!

I was in a wedding that had a similar walk from the ceremony to the reception and it wasn't an issue at all. As others mentioned the golf carts will be more than sufficient for the people that can't/don't want to walk. The bride just made a note on the invitation so no one showed up in stilettos.

I love this idea! I think as long as you have options for folks who don't want to/can't walk the 1/4 mile, you're good.
