Waist Trainers: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly?

GetCarriedAway, on March 22, 2016 at 9:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

On my wedding day I REALLY think I need to wear some kind of shape wear. I'm 5'2", 185 lbs. I'm not petite-ly built though. Even though I'm short I look my BEST at 150 pounds. So, "short story long", I guess I'm 35 pounds overweight. I HATE wearing spanx!!!!!!!!!! Or anything like spanks. It rides up or rolls up. It is the worst. But I know that I may need some form of shape wear for my wedding. I've been thinking about waist trainers/corsets. I know about the potential health risks from them but I'm not planning on making it a habit. I literally only want to wear it one day: my wedding day. I've read a lot of reviews from plus sized women who say they don't ride up or roll up and that's the main thing for me. So does anyone have a waist trainer on here? Do you recommend it or is it a bad idea? (Fairly recent picture of me added for body proportion reference)

I think the potential to pass out in a heavy dress isn't worth it.

I'm waist training now with a corset from Orchard corset. It's helped me A LOT with my posture and serving sizes. It's also probably why my back aches are gone and I've lost a little weight. I'm 4'11'' and 140 (36D with size 6P pants). I love my mesh one for stealth corseting!

ETA: I started a year ago and was down to 128 pounds, then got stressed out and stopped all together with binge eating....here I am at 140 pounds and restarting the whole process again! Also, if you're planning to wear it under your dress to accentuate an hour glass figure, be sure to wear it for your fittings and season it well, especially if it's a steel bone corset.

Ok... You don't need anything, but I wore one under my dress... It definitely gave me curves, but I also couldn't breathe and it adjusted my fat up and down .. Yup... That means it brought out some back titties. (Can I still say titties on WW?) Anyway, if you want to be uncomfortable all day and night, not eat any food, barely able to breathe, and end up with indents from the steel boning inside.... By all means.... Waist train away!

I bought a shaper/corset at kohl's and I love it. It hides all my rolls and belly fat under my dresses. It's the ones that includes a bra so it won't ride up or down. Also my dress is corset back so I don't really need the shaper but I'm using it for bra support.

I'm using a corset with my dress (we are about the same height and weight) and it really helps also depending on the type of dress you have you could try the shapewear from the bridal shop. My sister had one that had some tulle at the bottom and man did it give her a great shape!

I will more than like use a faja shaper. You can order them online. They are great and a little more comfortable than the ribbed corset. My dress has pretty material that really hides the belly, but I still would wear one in my mermaid dress.

@HoneyLife - I'm going to try Orchard when I'm in NYC this summer! Looking forward to getting fitted for something that won't give me Alexis' experience.

Yeah I've read about the dangers too :/ pretty scary stuff. But I figure it can't hurt if it's a one day thing...I'll have look at those faja shapers!

I'm over 150, hope to be under 150 by the wedding, but Saturday I purchased my bra. It covered my entire stomach and back like a corset. It cost like $50 at the bridal shop. I knew it worked because when I tried on dresses there they put me in one and I loved it. Now I have my own. You should try that.

I've heard more bad than good out of them. They can damage organs and cause a lot of problems in the future. I suggest asking a professional about using one or other "safer" opinions. Good luck!
