Did you write your own or stick to the traditional vows?

Our officiant really wanted us to write our own. One evening my hubby & I sat on the couch, wrote just a few lines, then teared up as we practiced reading them to each other. Glad we wrote our own!

I think we started with “I promise to...” which helped because we talked about ways we could support/love/ have fun with the other in ways that would make them happy (which automatically made the vows personal to us).

I really want to write our own, but my fiancé chickened out. I’m going to ask him to write letters to each other instead so it’s more private. He’s not good at expressing himself romantically through words but this is something I really need from him. So hopefully he’ll be down for it.

We both wrote our own vows and are so glad we did. We will always have them to look back on. We both tested up when reading them but that is to be expected.

Our wedding is about a year away and FH mentioned he already had two paragraph for his vows and it was the sweetest thing ever... we want to say our own vows because we have been together for 8 years and I want to express to him how much he means to me, but I’m also incorporating some of the traditional vows

We are writing our own! It was actually FH's idea. If we were having a traditional wedding, I don't know if I'd be able to do it. Walking down the isle where everyone would watch me was giving me anxiety as it was 😂

We wrote our own and it was the best part of our ceremony! It was such a beautiful moment.

We're going to do traditional vows. We're also going to write private vows to each other & read them before the ceremony.

We’re writing our own... I’ve finished mine, not sure where fh is. I do keep reminding him, he’s nervous about it. But it’ll be the best part of our ceremony I’m sure.

We did not write our own but our officiant had a binder full of different vows and ceremony readings so we were able to mix and match in order to get the vows we wanted.

We're writing our own vows. We both preferred to tell each other vows that are coming from our heart than go the traditional route.

I, originally, wanted us to write our own, but we're going with edited versions of traditional vows. I'm very outgoing and FH is more reserved so he's not really comfortable reading his own vows in front of ~200 people. The ceremony script my uncle (who is the pastor marrying us) wrote is around 1 Corinthians 13 so the verbiage of our vows are more closely aligned with that passage. I do want us to write letters to each other to read before the ceremony, though, which FH is comfortable with!

We are sticking to traditional, but might have our own twist to it. We haven’t even met with our officiant yet!!!!

I was thinking the same but I will be a wreck if we do!!!!!! Instead of my bouquet I would need to walk down the aisle with a box of tissues!!!

I think my plan was to practice them a couple times when he’s not home so that it’s still emotional but it maybe takes a bit of the edge off so i’m not so emotional that i can’t talk.

We are writing our own. It means more to me to share the promises that may only apply to us as a couple. There are things I will promise to her that wouldn't apply to someone else. We have a unique relationship and it just made more sense this way. I cry when I read them over to make sure they're just right!

We are writing our own. We have "His & Hers" vow books to put them in that we got from Hobby Lobby. I started with 3 1/2 pages but got it down to 1 finally. Boy, its hard!

My FH wants us to write our own. I have no idea how to do it or what to say... My heart is so full. I'm sure I'll figure it out closer to time... It surprises me that this was his idea because he has a learning disability that makes it hard for him to express himself in writing. So the fact he wants to write something really is special, I know how much effort it will take him. Smiley heart
