Vows

Savannah, on February 3, 2022 at 8:22 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 5

Hi, my questions are, how do i create my vow? Do I just write down what my heart tells me to write? does it have to rhyme like a poem? Do I have to create one?

You could either do traditional vows and have the officiant read them and you repeat after them, or you could write your own personal vows! If you choose to write your own vows, the biggest things to include are the specific promises that you are making to your partner: "I promise to be there for you in sickness and in health", or "I vow to love you and care for you for the rest of our lives", or even something that adds humor, such as "I promise to not brag when my baseball team wins against yours". You could also add a couple sentences about about your love story and/or why you love your partner, but the biggest focus in your vows should be the promises you're making to your partner. It does not need to rhyme or anything. If you don't want to write your own, you could just do the traditional ones! Make sure your officiant knows what you plan to do for your vows.

Vows are your promises to each other. They do not have to rhyme. You don't have to write your own if you do not want to. Many couples recite the standard vows (for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, etc.).

I take notes everytime something comes to mind and once I’m feeling inspired I put them all together! I try to be serious and cheesy but throw some funny things in there! It’s like a letter Smiley smile

This is the structure I followed when I wrote mine and it really helped to organize my thoughts:

    1) impression of him when we met

    2) how I fell in love/what about him made me fall in love

    3) promises

    4) closing/ i love you

Im a big fan of vows that are a mix of funny and serious. Definitely feel free to incorporate inside jokes that you have and things that will be memorable. Think of it as more of a love letter to your partner that you just read out loud. ALSO: remember to say i love you lol.
