Vow scare!

Mariana, on October 17, 2019 at 7:56 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
Hi! Today I'm sending our judge the script for the whole thing and it needs to include our vows because she said she's going to give us sort of a "gift" with them. My FH agreed and so did I, but now that I'm reading it I'm nervous it doesn't sound much like a vow. I'm getting second thoughts on what I wrote just because of my constant thinking of what will everyone think of it... I sort of write poetically and descriptive sometimes so although it's short and precise (about half a page), it has these factors and idk 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm going insane overmany many things.

I'm a poet and author and I look forward to writing my own vows. I know that my vows will be unique and I don't necessarily care about whatever someone else will think because it's my thoughts and words towards my FH. With that being said, it's the same for you. Personal vows are unique because they come from you and your heart. They're unique because it's something shared between the two of you that only you'll understand and fully appreciate. That's fine. I wouldn't waste too much time thinking about what others will think or say because they're YOUR vows and YOUR words of love and commitment to your fiance. It's about you TWO anyway. Be proud and happy with your gift of writing. Congratulations.

We wrote our own vows. My experience as an officiant helped fuel my confidence (after rewriting them twice) but my wife was so nervous and ended up finishing them at 3am before the big day. When I tell you there was not a dry eye in the house I am not exaggerating in any way. She spoke from her heart, knew the promises she wanted to make to me and put something together that has me tearing up now as I type. If you wrote with truth and love, I'm sure they will be beautiful. Good luck!

In general I would have a third party read both of your vows. That way they can tell you without ruining the surprise whether they are too short/too long, and if they are in the same tone. You wouldn't want yours to be full of subtle jokes and lightheartedness and his to be emotionally pouring out his heart and soul.
