Vow Renewal

Erin, on February 21, 2021 at 4:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Does the vow renewal have to be on the same day as your original wedding date or is it ok to move it? Would you guys consider the vow renewal date, if different, to be a new anniversary or would we keep or original anniversary? With my husband joining the military, and with the job that he's aiming towards going for, there's a very good chance he'll be going through AIT during our first anniversary, and Ranger school during our second anniversary. We were hoping to do our vow renewal around our second anniversary to give us time to get settled. I'm starting planning now, because I know I'll be super busy once he leaves xD

Also, am I crazy to be starting to figure out what I want to do when I don't 100% know where we'll be? There are 3 possible station locations, two in Georgia, and one in Washington, so it's narrowed down a bit. And would it be silly to consider wearing a ball gown on the beach?

The vow renewal can be any date. It does not become the new anniversary of your legal wedding.

That's good! When I started my planning journey I didn't think I'd need to be planning a vow renewal, but nothing ever quite goes how you want it to. Thank you Smiley smile

Agree - the vow renewal can be anytime. As far as planning- that’s going to be tough as you don’t know where you’ll be. You can start with budget & guest list but that’s going to change since some venues are more expensive in different regions.

The vow renewal can be at any point, but if it were me I would keep it as long to your actual wedding date as possible. I would also celebrate the day you were legally married vs when the vow renewal took place.

As for planning, I think it would be next to impossible to plan a wedding without deciding on a location. Other than budget and guest list, the venue is the very first thing you should be doing which means you have to know what area you are having your vow renewal in.

I personally wouldn't wear a ballgown on the beach. I wore a ballgown for my wedding and they tend to be rather warm so you would be sweating on the beach unless you are getting married when it is going to be cold. I also wouldn't want sand getting all over a ballgown dress as I think it would be harder to clean if you wanted to preserve your dress.

I ask about the dress because I already have it from when we were planning a wedding in Colorado before deciding to go on the adventure that we are now xD. I'd rather not get another dress since my parents paid for the one that I have. I figured I could plan something in Georgia and something in Washington (without actually booking anything, of course). We'll know exactly where we're going to be around our 1st anniversary, so we'd have a year before our 2nd anniversary to get things booked once we know where we'd be going. I'm an early planner though, so I wanted to get started with a plan for what I want xD (I'm sure that seems crazy).

I'm not sure what you'd actually be able to plan in two different locations because without booking things there is no guarantee the date you will want will be available or the vendors you will want will be available either. I think it would be best to select one location rather than trying to plan something in two different locations.

A vow renewal can be any day you want. Since it’s just a celebration of your already existing marriage, most people don’t celebrate the anniversary of a vow renewal.

There's no reason to buy a 2nd dress. Wear the one you have.
