Vow Renewal Dress

My husband and I are planning to renew our vows for our 15th wedding anniversary. We were married on a beach in Barbados and it was just the two of us. We are considering going back to Barbados or St. Lucia. I was considering buying a chiffon gown for the ceremony, no train or veil. I want this to be a special occasion, one we will remember and cherish as much as our wedding day. I was browsing the internet for vow renewal etiquette and found this: "the dress you select for your wedding vow renewal should not look like a wedding dress. Remember, vow renewals are not second weddings (save the wedding dresses for the brides)". I wasn't planning to purchase a ball gown or anything I thought was over the top. Am I out of line wearing a beach type wedding dress for our vow renewals? Thanks.

    Connie, I have officiated quite a few vow renewals (ranging from 1st anniversary to 50th anniversary).

    Some of the wives have worn their gown from their wedding (wish I still fit into mine!), some have purchased new white gowns, some have worn more casual white dresses, some have worn colored dresses or skirts.

    I say, "wear what makes you happy!"

    Hello from another 15th anniversary Vow Renewal Bride! I feel the same way that you do & also want this to be a special day for us. I found an ivory lace shorter dress that reminded me of my wedding dress, which I am wearing for our renewal. I think the one you have chosen is perfect for a beach ceremony and will be lovely - white is always an appropriate option. I agree with Nancy above "wear what makes you happy!"

    Forget what some other website says. That dress is gorgeous and if that's what you want to wear, go for it.

    Having my 20th anniversary vow renewal in May. I feel your pain there is so much stuff out there as to what you should or shouldn't wear. I agree with everyone, do what makes you happy. I have decided I want a tea length blush pink dress, good lord I had no idea how difficult it was going to be to find what I want. I LOVE the dress above that you posted, it caught my eye last week. Go for it & enjoy reaffirming your love for each other!

    Thanks everyone! I went ahead and purchased the dress in the link above. It is beautiful! I did something I probably shouldn't have. I ordered it one size smaller than I currently am but one size larger than I hope to be in September. The dress is close to fitting but not quite. In January I started Weight Watchers online and so far I am down 11 lbs. My goal is to rock that dress in September in St. Lucia!

    Sorry for the delay in responding. I purchased it online at Light in the Box: http://www.lightinthebox.com/c/sheath-column-wedding-dresses_2655 I was surprised at the quality for the price and the dress was delivered so quickly. I may have it altered locally if needed.

    So excited - we are planning on going to Sandals Grande St. Lucian for our vow renewal! Can't wait.
