Voile or Chiffon?

Jennifer, on June 26, 2020 at 3:31 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8
Hi everyone!

I’m hoping to order fabric for our altar, like the image I attached. This photo is from another wedding at our venue, so it would be this exact set up.
I’m having a hard time figuring out if this is chiffon or voile — or which one I should order. I know they’re similar-ish, but voile comes in a width of 118” and chiffon is 60”. I think I’d probably prefer voile, but I don’t know if it would look too wide and if I’d have to double it up or have it too “scrunched” if that makes sense.
Thanks for any help! 🤍Voile or Chiffon? 1

Can the event coordinator at the venue tell you what they usually use? Do they have the fabric to set it up for you? Honestly, this will take a lot of fabric.
I think you could get a similar look with chiffon, voile, or tulle- I’d just go look at the different fabrics to make sure you like the color, opacity, and to feel how stiff it is to determine how well you’ll get it to lay. In my understanding voile is more stiff than chiffon, but I’m most familiar with tulle from our projects. Good luck!

Thanks, Jessica! They don’t have the fabric, I would have to order. Our venue coordinator didn’t have much guidance — just said 60” width was probably enough. I was going to order online, but the place I was looking at is delayed bc of COVID, so don’t think I have time to wait for samples and then order. I’m in NYC, so most stores are closed to go shop in person. Really appreciate your help!

I'm sorry they weren't more help! COVID is causing so many additional frustrations! Can you contact customer service for the place you are ordering and *hopefully* get some details from them about the fabrics you are looking at? If you let them know what you are hoping to do, they may be able to provide some guidance about which is going to flow and lay best.

Looks like chiffon which drapes better than tulle. 60" wide is plenty.

I just ordered chiffon, I think it weighs more than tulle, which means it would drape better...fingers crossed 🤞
