Vocals or Instrumental?

SwoleMates2016, on August 14, 2015 at 6:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Trying to decide when to play versions of songs with vocals and when to stick to instrumental. Pre-ceremony, processional, bridal entrance, cocktail hour, and dinner. I'll want to stick with the same type of music for each selected time frame. Are vocals distracting and I should just stick with instrumental till the actual dancing time?

Thanks in advance!

I think vocals might be distracting for your entrance. Is this live music or recorded?

This would be recorded music. I don't know why I listed my entrance, I'm having a friend who is a musician playing guitar for my entrance. So ignore that.

What about for cocktail and dinner? Is it annoying to have vocals when you're trying to talk to the people around you?

Our string trio who will play at our wedding are playing during cocktail time. Then we are switching to our iPod playlist of quiet love song type music during dinner. Then we have a different peppy playlist for after dinner. I think vocals during dinner is ok as long as they are soothing and quiet. I would stick to instrumental for pre-wedding and ceremony and recessional. But that is just my opinion Smiley smile

Here are my suggestions as a former Wedding DJ (7 years) and now an Officiant (9 years)..

Processional - Instrumental...set the mood with something that reflects your tastes

Processional - Whatever your heart desires!

Bridal Party Entrance - Instrumental, so that your DJ / MC can make introductions w/o talking over obnoxious vocals.

Cocktail hour and dinner - Low-key love songs and/or instrumental Jazz.

    After-dinner - Party time!!
