Videos for Ceremony and First Dance

SLY, on November 30, 2020 at 8:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hello everyone! We're not wanting to have a videographer to film our entire wedding. We can't justify spending that amount of money on something we'd watch maybe twice.

We would really love for our ceremony and the first dances to be filmed for sentimental purposes, but don't want to spend thousands on a videographer.

For those that didn't have one: How did you go about filming your ceremony and the first dances?.

If I wanted my wedding or a portion of it videoed then I would do it the 80s/90s wsy with home video.

Do you have a couple friends or family members who would be willing to record the ceremony and first dance and other parts of the reception on their phones (each from a different angle)? That way, you could use all the footage and put together your own video using the different angles.

That's what we're considering. I had looked up some videographers and looked at their packages for what we would be wanting, but it would still cost $1k+!!

We'll probably go that route though because we don't need it to be fancy, just a home video that we can have to look back on!

That makes sense! And yeah, videography can be expensive! If you're not wanting to get a professional videographer, I think if you get 3-4 people to each capture footage on their cell phone (or video camera, if they have one), you'll get a good variety of angles and plenty of video. You might even be able to pay a videographer to put the video together for you using the files your friends/family captured.

We had the budget for it, but we simply didn't feel the need for a professional videographer (seemed unnecessary to us). Our DOC used a gopro camera with a tripod to capture our ceremony, first dance, and speeches and the quality came out great! The key was having it on the tripod so nobody was holding it in their hand and shaking, which might have been the case with a phone video. Our DOC already owned the gopro and offers this for all of her clients that don't hire videographers free of charge. My advice would be to use a gopro with a tripod. If you don't know anybody with a gopro, they can be rented very cheaply.

Thanks! We were gifted an off brand gopro from my FH's dad a couple of years back and haven't used it, so we'll look into that! Never thought of asking our DOC if they offer or have done that before. We'll def. ask her about that when we meet!

You can just have someone record on their phone or a go pro camera

I set up a digital camera on a tripod. Bought brand new batteries and memory card. My brother was in charge of pushing the record button.
It’s not amazing, but it’s something

Yeah we aren't wanting anything fancy, just something to be able to have and know that we can look back on the video if we want to.

Most of the comments on here suggest a tripod or having someone we know film it, so that may be the route we take!
