Videography

Nikki, on December 30, 2019 at 8:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
How important is it to you to have a videographer? If you had one, have you watched your wedding after the fact? My parents had theirs recorded (ok...29.5 years ago), and they have watched the vhs maybe three times in almost 30 years. My FH thinks we need to have it, but I cannot justify spending that much money on something that we would not get any use from. I personally don't like to watch videos of myself anyways, so I don't think I would ever watch it. I would much rather re-live my wedding through photos. Any ways to try to convice my FH that we don't need it, and the money would he better used elsewhere?

I would let him have it if it's important to him. Maybe he can buy it without it going into your budget or look around for a cheaper one. Maybe you give him this and he gives you something you really want?

As much as I would love to, we really don't have the budget for it. My parents are helping pay for a lot of the wedding, but seeing as we're still living with our parents, not even living together yet, there are so many things the money would be better spent on. That is something that my dad doesn't really thing they need to help pay for either though, since he sees it as kind of a waste too. I think my parents had a friend do theirs, which I wouldnt object to, but i can't see spending $2k on one....we're still trying to stick to a budget...

Ahhhh well now knowing all of that then definitely not. Maybe sometime in the pew can video record it? I would say he could spend his own money on it but i would say that's money towards getting your own place.

Yeah. Sorry, guess I should have mentioned that in the original comment. I would love to let him get one. Finances are not a strong point for us, but we're slowly saving up for what we need. I'm hoping that's something he may be willing to talk about, getting someone to record already in the pew...even though I hate cameras, whether for pictures or recording....but I dont mind compromising sone things.

I felt the same way until I started watching some of my videographers work. To me photos do tell alot, but there's alot that they don't capture. Even if you get a family friend to shoot for you I would do it. Smiley smile

I didn’t have a videographer. We’ve been married over a year and have no regrets. Most of my friends that had one hardly watch theirs. My parents aren’t able to watch theirs from the 80s because they don’t make the technology to play it anymore.

That's what im worried about...never watching it again, and not being able to the way technology is going. My parents have theirs on VHS, and I guess they know someone who can convert it to DVD, but they haven't been in a rush to do so. We're still a year out, so we've got time to really decide....thank you for your input.

Yeah my parents tape was whatever was before VHS! Haha. We splurged on a photographer and love our pictures. We have them in several places in our home and are happy with our choice. Good luck with whatever you choose.

We're not going with it for that exact reason. We will never watch it. I'd rather put the money somewhere else for the wedding, in savings, or put towards an awesome honeymoon.

I’ve been married a little over a year and we’ve probably watched at least one of our videos, on average, every other month. Now I know it’s the first year and our parents live in different states, so this year has been more watching than probably years to come... but we loved everything about our day and everything about our videos! We watch it on our anniversary and I watch it a lot of random times. 😂 We’ve been fortunate thus far, but one day I’m sure we’ll watch it to remember our nearest and dearest who’ve passed on, so it’s morbid but something to consider when deciding if it’s worth it or not...

For us, pictures are are plenty. We are defitely not wasting the money on a video that cant be put in our home or a scrapbook. Besides, you could always have a family member take a video

    Clicked enter too soon...
I am unsure when we will watch it, but I did request all of the raw footage because if I don’t like what the videographer edited together I’d like to make our own video.

You could get a digital copy and keep it on your google drive or cloud to have when you get sentimental. I’ll likely watch it during anniversaries or when I feel like reliving the day!

I think video is important if you can fit it in your budget. You probably wont watch it much but say in 20 years when you do watch it some people who may no longer be with you will be brought back to life in that moment...and for me that memory is worth it.

I think it's up to you, but also keep in mind that wedding videos from 30 years ago are different from the types of videos most videographers today will give you. It used to be common to just give you a straight recording of the ceremony, but now a lot of videographers will create a video of various parts of your wedding with music which might be more fun to watch.

I didn't plan on one nor did I budget for one until I saw my cousin's video recently. Now I am second guessing myself!

I'm on the fence about this too! Neither me nor my FH really have a strong pull to it, but I think it would be neat to have. We have a really good photographer and i'm super excited to see what she captures. I was honestly thinking that maybe, just for kicks, we do like an oldschool video where we sest up a camcorder in the church and take our own "home video" That is what all of my family always did. I think it would be a cute little thing to have, without paying the big bucks. I know it takes skill and there are some amazing videographers out there. But for my own self if i have to chose, I would rathar have professional pictures taken and a home video.. If i have a raw video of the ceremony i think it would be cute and better than none. Really want to, but I just don't know how I would go about it. I wonder if anyone's ever done this before.I could probably put someone like my cousin or (my tech savvy) grandma in charge of setting it up and hitting record i suppose right?
