Videography: Worth it?

Charlotte, on February 28, 2020 at 4:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
My FH thinks that videography is cheesy and a waste. I personally have seen some gorgeous wedding videos though and kind of like the idea of having a video along with pictures to remember the date.

What are your thoughts? Is it worth it or just an extra expense that you can go without?

Have you thought of something like Wedding Mix that is way more affordable than a traditional videographer/cinematographer and your guests to get help in making your day that much more special!

It’s worth it to me; I’m obsessed with our teaser video so I can only imagine how I’ll feel about the full one. We eloped so it was a necessity for me.

If you aren’t going to watch it often or share with family/friends it’s probably not worth it. There are other methods for getting video clips as mentioned above, if you don’t want to spend a bunch on it.

I think it’s totally worth it!! But it’s only if you’ve the budget otherwise if you’ve got photographer then it’s fine to skip.

100% worth every penny. We actually decided against videography due to budget and then 6 weeks before the wedding I had massive regret and hired a videographer who partners with our photographer (luckily he was available). When I was feeling post-wedding blues honestly looking at our photos just made me sad but watching our video actually cheered me up hugely. It lets you relive the day in a way that photos just can’t. Another bonus is my husband’s grandmother was unable to attend our wedding (she lives across the country and is not healthy enough to do a long flight) and we’re actually visiting her this weekend and going to show her our video, and we’re just so excited because she’s really going to be able to feel like she was there and experience the day through the video! Same thing goes for when we have kids, grandkids, etc. So I think it is amazing for us to be able to have to reexperience it, and our loved ones who couldn’t make it (either because they couldn’t travel or because they haven’t been born yet hahah) to be able to experience it!

Long response I know, but I’m just super passionate about this hahaha. I know I would’ve regretted it MASSIVELY if I didn’t have our video, it is just priceless to me.

Daughter is EXTREMELY glad she got video. She always wanted it, but it didn't originally fit the budget. She got an unexpected Christmas bonus at work six-weeks before the wedding and decided to go for it. She found a husband-wife team on Thumbtack who were available, with a portfolio she was really happy with. She got about 6 hours of raw video and a 6.5 min highlight film for about $1500. She also received over 1100+ edited gorgeous photographs from her photographer. She is VERY happy to have both. The day went by quickly, and especially in the raw video it's fun to see and hear so many special moments again. The highlight video provides a wonderful, well edited overview of the day. She has no regrets.

I didn’t get a videographer and a year and a half later I have no regrets about that. I asked a lot of my friends as well before my wedding and none of them regretted not getting one. The ones that did get it said they watched it once a year at most. We prioritized our budget in other ways.

Worth it. I’d rather elope with only the two of us and videographer and photographer if my budget didn’t allow for videographer along with traditional reception with guests than to pay for a full ceremony and reception but not have a video for my memories. If your fiancé thinks they’re cheesy, that’s means he hasn’t seen a videographer who’s style he likes. Outside the two of us, photographer and videographer are the other must haves. But that’s just me. How important is it to you? Your fiancé doesn’t have to agree with you on everything, you should each have things you “give” each other just because the other person wants it. My had a really firm opinion on the ceremony location. I let him have it. The goal isn’t 100% agreement but okay, we should both get the things that are most important to us.

Not worth it for me. We are not video people, and we really don't want to spend any more money on something that we know we won't watch/use. My sister had a videographer and said it was the biggest waste of money for her.

Since my wedding 5 years ago I have lost my beloved Aunt (like my mother) and also my cousins son(nephew to me). They are in the video and its priceless to me. The guy also fixed (uprighted) the video shot on an Ipad from my emergency wedding in the hospital before my father passed. That was 2.5 months before the planned day Smiley sad .

We were definitely on the fence about Videography at first too.

Then the parents started saying we needed it. And we automatically changed our minds.
    They made some awesome points!
We cut back on photography. Still a rockstar photographer, but a cheaper rate!
The day is going to FLY by. Pictures are amazing, but videos capture SO MUCH MORE. In reality, how many pictures will you get printed out vs how many times would you watch a highlight film? What solidified it for us was finding an inexpensive, yet amazing videographer! I put a lot of time into researching for photography and videography to find great vendors and great prices. If you’re willing to put the time in, you’ll find some amazing videographers that don’t break the bank!
