Videographers

Danielle, on January 19, 2020 at 5:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Are videographers really worth the price? Most of the ones I've contacted have pricing similar to photographers' pricing. We aren't sure if their services live up to the hype they portray. Should we just have our guests take videos?

We purchased 2️⃣📹 and SD cards and had 2 guys of different heights record so that there would be different angles.

Absolutely worth the money! We watch our videos all the time! Your wedding day will go by so quickly and will really be a blur. Having your videos to go back and look at really let you relive it over and over again. Videography was some of the best money we spent!

I just would NOT allow myself to pay all that 💵 to someone to record for all that time and then give me back a 6-8 (maybe 10) minute highlight reel. What happens to the rest of the footage?

We skipped a videographer and we don’t regret it more than a year later.

You get back a video of the whole wedding as well! They just don’t post those videos!

Our videographer came with the venue. So we’re going to use it. They’re not doing anything fancy and only taking video of the ceremony. For me, I don’t think video is something I‘ll ever really sit down and watch again (I never watch the video from my first wedding). So the simple video and pictures will be fine for us.

I think it boils down to whether video is important to you or not. It wasn't super high on the list for us (photography was #1), so I wasn't too pressed to find a videographer. However, I kept hearing how many brides wished they had it after the fact. We ended up getting lucky and found a videographer who is expanding into the wedding industry from the corporate world who is going to do our video at just his hourly shooting rate (editing included). If we weren't getting such a great price, we probably would have foregone a videographer. Are there any videographers in your area who are trying to build their portfolio? They may offer a better rate than an established videographer.

I’m not sure what your budget would be if you decided on a videographer but where we live is really expensive for weddings and a videographer of the quality we wanted was 5k for the hours of coverage, length of video etc.... I decided to search out other videographers farther away who would travel and we found someone out of Norfolk who’s total cost + travel was less than half of a Northern VA videographer. That might be an option if you really want video but not at premium prices?

I’ve never heard of videographers only giving you a 6-10 film and nothing else...
They record the whole day and you get the days worth of footage. The highlight film is just what they feature. We got a highlight film as well as our entire ceremony & all of our special moments (first look, dances, toasts, etc).

We paid $2,500 for our videographers and it was worth it. We are so happy with our videos & know it will be something great to have in the future.

Honestly i think it is but if it isn't in your budget, having photos only is fine.

Remember, while you may get back a highlight film, the reason videographers charge so much is because they do as much of work as photographers. Every second of your video is either 24 or 60 still photos if you think about it. You're not only paying for the day of, you're paying for the editing, music licensing, as well as the experience of the videographer and the equipment they carry. I would definitely do it, because at the end of the day, all you have of your wedding is your pictures and video.

Thank you all so much for your advice. After consideration, we have decided not to hire a professional videographer. If we find one who is up and coming (as Nicole suggested), we will consider that. With the expense of all other aspects of the wedding, that couple extra thousand can be used for our new home. Smiley heart (We're planning to build one within the next year or two.) Thanks again!
