Videographer/photographer timeline?

Ashley, on February 10, 2018 at 3:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
How long do you typically book a photographer and videographer? We’re doing a first look and the ceremony won’t be religious or personalized vows or anything so probably pretty quick. Reception is right after and held at the same location. Do you just book the videographer for first look and ceremony? I imagine 2hrs would be plenty of time, then? As far as photographer, do you just have them for first look/ceremony/photos with family/part of reception? Or throughout the whole event? Might be a stupid question but I’m the first of my friends to get married and never even been to a wedding before. Thank you!

It really depends on how much of the day you want captured. We’re doing the entire day with our photographer and videographer because we want to make sure to capture everything. I’d rather end up with too many photos and too much footage than regret missing something!

Usually it’s the whole day unless your event is really long then people do a mock exit just to have it film and photos so they don’t have to stick around the whole night when they got pretty much all the important moments. Video can be whatever you want, usually they go to the reception as well to film the entrance, first dance, cake cutting, and other important moments as well as some dancing. Hope this helps.

Thank you!! We’re not doing a first dance and not sure about cake cutting, so we’ll probably have the photographer all day and the videographer for the first few hours. I appreciate the input everyone gives on here, it’s so helpful.

Our photog/video vendors already had packages of 8 and 9hrs. So we booked them for 8hrs. Thinking of the timeline of pre-wedding prep photos, 1st look, ceremony, cocktail hour and a 4hr reception I figured that was enough time to accurately capture our day. Decide what events you want them to capture and that will help determine how long you need them for. At a bare minimum I would probably do 4hrs.

We want part of the bride/groom prep to be captured along with the first look, ceremony, first dance (bride/groom and father/daughter, mother/son), and speeches captured on video, so we’re booking our videographer for six hours and then they can leave during reception. They’re much more expensive than our photog, who will be with us for 8.5 hours.

They’re so expensive!! (Understandably so). The price is why we’re trying to really get our priorities lined up. We’re not doing dances/speeches so hopefully we should be able to keep it to like 2hrs? I’m now leaning towards 6ish hrs for the photographer. I’d get more use out of images anyway, I think.

We have our photographer all day and our videographer for 10 hours, I feel how someone else posted above Smiley smile rather have more footage than not enough and missing something funny/cool/sweet that happens

I think you should have them for as long as your budget will allow Smiley smile are you interested in having any getting ready photos / video?

Our budget for sure doesn’t allow for 10hrs of videography. We’re not struggling but I’m not one for sentimentals anyway, and we already have a rather small guest list and whatnot to keep costs down (trying to save for a house!). Considering a videographer at all is splurging in my opinion (for our situation), but after reading others’ responses, I at least want the ceremony recorded. I’d want photography of the getting ready part for sure, though!

I had a small wedding, so we hired the photographer for 8 hours, and the videographer for 6 hours. The photographer arrived 4.5 hours before my ceremony; the videographer arrived 2 hours before my ceremony.

I'm just having a photographer, and her package is for 10 hrs no matter what. She only has one rate.
