Videographer

Gabrielle, on January 24, 2020 at 12:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi!
I’m trying to decide on whether or not a videographer is worth the expense. All the local ones are over $2,000 and we are doing a small ceremony with 15 people tops.

But we are having a big Halloween party where we are announcing to all of our friends and family that we got married so it would be nice to play the video at the party. But I just don’t know if I can justify that big of an expense!
I was also going to see if someone coming to the ceremony could record the ceremony, but I don’t want to take away from their experience and have an “unplugged” ceremony.

I'm curious if you could work out a custom package with a videographer if this is strictly video for a ceremony - and maybe some of the getting ready, first look/love notes, etc. From my previous research the packages that are ranging in the $2K and beyond (ours ended up being $4K) have a lot more to them which includes 8-10 hours of service and video editing for getting ready and ceremony of course, but also things like first dances, toasts, and the rest of the reception that you may not be having at this event?

Shoot them an email laying out what you're interested in, maybe something like: 3 hours of service to include "final touches/getting ready" (ex: your groom slipping his jacket on and your mom helping with your veil), a first look if you're having one, the ceremony, and post-ceremony while the two of you are getting portraits done. This could offer lot's of opportunity for final videos to be something along the lines of: an edited video of the full 3 hours (our videographer gave us one which was 7-8 minutes and one that was 1 minute which was perfect for social media and the acquaintances/co workers who really just want a glimpse), and an unedited cut of your ceremony.

My guess is that you'll be able to half the price that you're currently looking at Smiley smile If the ones you've contacted are unable to do a custom package, you can always reach out to college students in film, local photographers who are bound to have other contacts, etc. Good luck!!

We paid $3k for ours and it was SO worth it. I can't imagine not having those videos, especially of the ceremony. Maybe you could ask if they could turn a typical 5-8 hour package into a two day package? So they film your small ceremony, then come back for your bigger reception?

I personally think it is. But if it's not in your budget I would just ask your family and friends to send you clips so at least youd have them

Worth every penny! I love our wedding videos! Your day will go by so fast, and when it’s all over, having your videos to look back on really means a lot.

I think you should at least make sure you get the whole ceremony. I know my videographer had varying packages for what you wanted whether it was ceremony only or a 30 minute video throughout the entire day. Maybe look into videographers who are starting out but still produce quality videos and see if they offer varying packages
