My fiancé are so torn about if we should have a videographer or not. What are your opinions? Also could you recommend one for the Maryland area that wouldn’t break the bank

we are still on the fence

While I think the wedding videos are cute, we opted out for a videographer. One because it was pricey and not in our budget, but also because I know we'll hardly ever watch it again after the initial honeymoon phase. For some people, it's a must though!

My memory isn't the best due to an overdose that put me into a coma so that's why I expresses my feelings to my FH how I wanted to hire a videographer for our wedding because I have a hardtime remembering everyday things that I tend to forget and I just want to be able to sit down and be able to have a video of our wedding💜

If you really want one just hire one I mean unless it'll cause issues with your FH🤷

We decided not to get one. Unfortunately it's super expensive and nobody really tends to watch it more than once, so we thought we would rather get a very good photographer instead!

We diy’d this by purchasing 📹s and having 2 guys of different heights record for us.

This meant that we had control over all footage, not just what was provided in a 6-8 minute snippet that costs Thousands of dollars and a vendor meal.

Since they were invited guests, their meals were already accounted for.

We did not have one. We asked a cousin to use their video camera and record our ceremony and still watch it on our anniversary most years, but I prefer pictures for the rest of the time!

I think it's worth it but if it's not in your budget I wouldn't get it.

My FH wants one so I told him he'd have to pay for it. To my surprise he's already booked one.

I honestly think it depends. I don’t know too many people who go back and watch it. Most videographers don’t give you an actual video recording of the event. Typically, they give you a summary of the day and that’s ridiculous considering the cost. Also, a lot of people are doing it for a small clip on social media to share. I think if that’s the only reason that’s also silly. I’d evaluate why you want one and if that cost is worth having that.

I really wanted to have a videgrapher, but my husband did not care. I wanted one so I have something to look back at on the day. He told me how much he thought would be acceptable to spend on one so I spent hours researching one because my husband didn't give me a very high budget for one, but I found one that has amazing reviews for only like $1,200 which was really cheap. I live in Maryland, but the wedding was in Pennsylvania so I can't recommend one based on personal experience, but from reading reviews I found a couple in Maryland that are reasonably priced. I found all of them on WeddingWire which shows the most popular package fee people normally select. I found a lot of them that are around $1,500, but I am not sure if you considered that reasonably priced or not. There are a lot that are several thousand dollars so $1,500 is pretty reasonable compared to a lot of other ones. Hope this helps!

I honestly think it depends on how important it is for you Smiley smile. Im hiring a videographer even though it was initially not a priority for me. My sister got married about three years ago and unfortunately, my brother in law died of cancer two years after their marriage. My sister told me she wishes she hired a videographer because while she still has some photos and memories of that beautiful day, she wishes she could see his expressions and hear his voice and relive that day in a different way.

Hopefully my grandma will still be around for my wedding...I’d love to have footage of her so that I can treasure it. Overall, it’s an extra expense for sure, but it’s something that I hope to look back on as time goes on.

    We are doing one.
    PRO:
    1) Older family won’t always be around and you’ll want to see them enjoying themselves when they are gone.
    2) If you have kids they will love watching it
    3) You’ll love watching it.

    CON:
    1) Can be costly
    2) Doesn’t turn out like you wanted
    3) Yeah can think of anything else

We've opted to book a videographer. They can be really expensive where I've seen pricing from $2,000-$8,000. We went the middle route due to we definitely wanted to have our ceremony, which we get fully edited Plus a fully edited 5 min highlight, but I wanted the raw footage from the whole day on a hard drive, not just a thumb drive. My cousin and maid of honor is in post production and if I ever needed something edited, ive got all the raw footage. Plus we have two videographers and three cameras will be set up at the ceremony. If we were not getting the raw footage, I'd probably forego it.

We opted not to because of the budget. If you can afford it, I would do it. There were sweet and funny moments that I would love to have on video. I’m also very sentimental and would watch it at least on anniversaries. Our photographer is great though so I’m excited to see how she caught those moments.

We're using wedit. I haven't had my wedding yet so I'm not sure, but they have great reviews. Its basically a site that you rent cameras, then leave the cameras at your guest tables, guests record footage, you send them back and they edit you a wedding video. You don't really get total control over the footage but I've talked to a few friends about this and I have them ready to grab one and capture the important moments. It's relatively inexpensive and I figure if it works out, I get a cool wedding video and if its nonsense oh well.
