Videographer Question/Issue

Anonymous, on September 21, 2016 at 5:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

Hi All

I don't normally post forum questions, but I read them and am hopeful someone has any advice/knowledge of this issue. I am recently married and we just found out that our wedding videographer has no footage at all from our wedding. They are offering to refund us however it does not replace the video itself at the end of the day. I have never heard of this happening before and neither has anyone else that I know. Has this happened to anyone before?

How do they have no footage?!?! Did they lose it??

ABSOLUTELY take your refund. And leave them a terrible review. Really sorry that happened to you!

I agree w/ Sarah. Get that dang money back and leave a bad review.

But I just dont understand how that happens.

Did they offer you an explanation?

It doens't compare- but did any guest record anything w/ camera phone?

Maybe reach out to a few. Smiley sad

SO sorry that happened to you!

See what your contract says, get your refund. Then I'd even see if there's any legal action you can take against them.

I am also curious as to what the excuse is on why they got no footage. That is probably one of the worst wedding nightmares come to life. I am really sorry.

I would sue. This isn't just about the money, it's about the memories that you counted on having recorded forever. Talk to a lawyer.

My sister had two photographers at her wedding, after 6 weeks of begging for a preview of photos they said they were "accidentally" deleted. She got her money back but nothing brings those memories back. All she has are candid shots of family which are nice but nothing formal.

Oh my god :.( I'm so sorry this happened to you. Yes, get your refund. Likely lost footage/accidentally deleted it. It happens. Read through your contract and see if there is anything fishy in there and get your FULL refund! And leave them a bad review. A really bad one. (after you get your refund) You can't ever get the footage back and its good to warn future brides.

Where did you get this videographer from? This is unreal. Is it a friend?

Can I just say; Don't sue. These are local small businesses... people like you and I. Mistakes happen and they are offering a full refund. Ruining their lives is a little much imo. A bad review is enough of a lesson, trust me. Plus lawyer fees and all the court just.. ugh. screw that.

Was it in your contract that they were to provide video footage? If so, I would lawyer up.

My photo/video contract stated that they are not reliable for any equipments malfunction. I complained but they ensure me that it never happened to them before. I guess these things do happen.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I actually know a lot about this stuff as I am a video editor. I'm going to need to know a little more information. What was the excuse? Did they said it was a corrupt card? Did a hard drive crash? Did they loose a card? What they said could make a difference as to if it was their fault or faulty equipment.

Thanks so much everyone for responding with your advice! It was a corrupt memory card. They did try everything possible to recover it they send it away and bought software as well to try to recover it. I was just curious as to how often/if this had happened to anyone else. It's definitely a bummer but it seemed to just be more a bout of bad luck than anything else. I'm not sure f there is anyway to test/determine that a memory card would be corrupt beforehand.
