Videographer or Waste of Money?

Krystyn, on July 10, 2019 at 3:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 39

So I am on the fence about a videographer and my fiance thinks we don't need one. I heard the points about missing out on important details because of all the running, but does your photographer really not capture enough of those shots? I also would like to save some money and that's an extra expense he wants to put on the chopping block and put the money towards my dream dress or our wedding shower. Help!

So I had the same thoughts about it and ended up going ahead and paying the money. What sold me is that most companies will also give you all the raw footage throughout the day, as well as a 6-9 minute video. So essentially we’ll have all of our ceremony recorded too a long with special moments and it seemed to be worth the money to me! I also watched a lot of YouTube videos of girls talking about that they liked the most and what they regret the most about their wedding day. Not one person said they regretted it, and everyone who did have a videographer said they look back at their video more than they do with their pictures. I put a lot of thought into it and decided to just do it! Hope that helps!

All of your points were against having a videographer and that’s completely fine. If you don’t want one, don’t have one. We chose to hire a videographer because no photo is going to capture the sound of us reading our vows. Don’t get me wrong, photos are super important, but I think videography captures the emotions of the day in a different way.

Thank you, it really does. I am going to try to convince him to go with a videographer for the wedding, I think as much as he says he doesn't care, he will appreciate it.

Videographer was a must have for me. Ever since I saw my friend's wedding highlight video, I was hooked and knew I had to have one for mine. If you've never seen one, you should you tube some to get an idea of what yours would be like, then make a decision.

Thank you Danielle, I actually have not gone on you tube but I will this weekend so that I can actually see it first hand.

I've never heard someone complain that they had a videographer. I have heard people regret not having one. Growing up, my family did not have really any money, but weddings were magical in our family and after the reception, we'd go back to my grandma's house and watch the wedding from the video my uncle would record with his not so great camera. I love those memories and they aren't even tied to my wedding. Regardless of whether you hire a professional or have a guest that loves having their camera out, I don't think you'll regret at least having your ceremony on film.

Video was an absolute must for me. As much as pictures do capture and they do so beautifully, it is so different being able to hear your voices, the music, reliving those moments etc. My coworker’s daughter got married a year ago and the entire family’s regret is not having video of the day.

Thanks Dita, I think I may close the thread because you honestly have all convinced me to put my foot down on this aspect.

My sister didn’t have one and doesn’t regret it and we won’t either. I see benefits but we don’t have it in our budget.

Courtney, I was on the fence but I think I am now leaning towards it as there are many affordable options out there for our budget.

As my fiance always says... "you can always get more money." Lol. Not exactly the best life motto, but for your wedding day I think it's a staple. I'm a videographer myself and videos will capture moments that pictures just can't. The more you have to look back on, the more you'll be glad you did. But if you're not the sentimental type and don't mind having pictures only, saving money is never a bad idea! Let your fiance know the pros and cons, that might help.Smiley smile

Most of my friends that had one watch their video at most once a year. That wasn’t worth $5k+ for us. But our pictures are amazing and I’m glad we splurged on them.

I thought it was the most silliest thing I've ever heard of when I was told repeatedly to get a videographer. My wedding was in May and I wish I would have gotten one! I dont remember all of the ceremony because I didn't want to full blown ugly cry so I didn't fully listen to the pastor message. Thankfully she sent me the whole ceremony in writing.the reception goes so fast! So fast! You will miss so much. I highly highly recommend it! Even if you only watch it once. You will be amazed on how much you really missed at your own wedding. I'm still hearing stories ect that I missed. Ring baraer and flower girl smooching while dancing just one example.

I agree with you all, I just have to explain all this to have and find someone affordable. I want the pictures to be the best quality but I can compromise on the video, it’s just for us anyway.

We chose not to get one because we love our photographer and have 100% confidence that she will capture everything we want and care about. We also aren't having her capture much at all of the reception, she is invited to stay as a guest. Also, video's don't fit into frames. Some couples can't see their day without it, It is just not something we cared about. Personally, I think it's a waste of money.

If we had to pay for our videographer, we wouldn’t have had one. In fact, we’ve watched our wedding video once and i would be incredibly surprised if we ever watched it again.

Same. I don’t regret this at all. I love our pictures, they captured everything I needed. I can’t imagine ever sitting down and watching the video tbh.

Someone did record parts of our ceremony on their phone, I think i watched it exactly one time 🤷🏻‍♀️
