Videographer or no?

Claire, on May 15, 2017 at 8:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

My fiancé and I are really struggling in if we want to hire a videographer or not. Our budget barely allows for one and we wonder if the 7 minute video, etc. will be worth the money. We've found a great candidate just don't know if it's worth it. Any suggestions?

Ehhhhhhhh I passed on the videographer. I feel like wedding videos always turn out so cheesy (even the really fancy, expensive ones).

I'm going to have one of my relatives record the wedding with a camera they have so I can still watch the ceremony later and it won't cost thousands.

Your day is going to go by so fast you're going to wish you had one to relive it. I'm getting on and I'm excited about it. Plus it'll be cool to show my grandkids, I would love it to be able to watch my parents or grandparents video

We booked a videographer recently because our photographer suggested it. Even though we'd have still pictures through his services, he thought it would be special to have a video that captured what people said instead of just what everything looked like. Our videographer is going to tape the vows, ceremony, and us reading letters to each other to put behind the video instead of just a soundtrack. I was sold immediately.

Thank you all for the feedback! We're thinking of just having a go pro passed around during the reception as an alternative. Although it won't look as professional, we will still have the video forever. Has anyone ever done this or something similar?

I think it's an awesome idea but I've been married before. I never watched my video more than once. Then it was on an outdated platform (VHS) so I couldn't have watched it again even if I wanted to. I'm just not sure that I could justify the cost.

Best decision we made was to hire a professional videographer.

People think of videography all wrong, IMO. It isn't about just recording your wedding for you to watch over and over. It's about one day in your life where you bring both your families together to watch you profess your love to one another and to have it recorded will be an irreplaceable treasure. Your loved ones won't be around forever. Having video of them interacting with you and your new spouse, of them dancing on the dance floor, of them giving a speech in your honor is something you can't get from photos. I will always love the video of my parents dancing during the anniversary dance and of my DW looking into my eyes as she said the vows she wrote herself. I'll remember my dance with my father and how he kept stepping on my dress and how he looked at me at one point and told me I looked beautiful and gave me advice for my marriage during our dance. I'll remember my sister, the maid of honor, who is sick and was able to cope with the illness enough for that one day to walk down the aisle. I see our guests filter in and mingle while they wait for the ceremony to start, see them reuniting and hugging and telling jokes and laughing during the reception. I see them hitting the bar and striking up conversations with my wife's friends, people they've never met before. A lot of touching things will happen at your wedding that you'll never know about, but it's all caught on video thanks to our decision to hire a videographer.

Honestly it's what you want! You don't need one, but all the videos I've seen tuned out amazing!

If you can afford it, I'd say go for it. Better to regret having it then not for this type of event.

I say yes! Try googling some pros and cons on videography for your wedding. Maybe do your own pro and con list and see what you come up with. If you have more cons then maybe you shouldn't.

Ive talked to tons of brides who said their wedding video is their biggest treasure from their wedding. I rather skip on the photographer than videographer....you probably will be on cloud 9 all day and the videographer will capture moments you totally forgot about. I highly recommend it. May regret it.
